benfotiamine, fat soluble vitamin b1, for nerve pain e.g. diabetic neuropathy and shingles
i have diabetic neuropathy
it is horribly painful
nothing helped until i started taking benfotiamine, a fat soluble form of thiamine, vitamin b1

i use a gram a day, and it stopped the horrible pain symptoms fairly much from the first dose

you can find it on ebay and amazon, the cheapest brand i found is from life extension, at the 1 gram a day dose, which was used in a medical study, it goes for about $20 a month

haven't read of any side effects so far

of course, i am not a medical doctor and can't diagnose or prescribe

go to benfotiamine.org for more info

this must be tried to be believed

Every pain is a nerve pain so are you saying this is a general pain killer?

Re: benfotiamine, fat soluble vitamin b1, for nerve pain e.g. diabetic neuropathy and shingles
like i said, i am not a medical doctor, and can't prescribe or diagnose

but, yeah, from what i have been reading, it may well be a panacea for many types of nerve pain

you should go to benfotiamine.org and read through the customer comments...people said it worked almost all of the time for diabetic neuropathy and even shingles

it also stops tissue damage from eating sugars and other carbohydrates

commenters included those whose diabetic neuropathy have cleared up (i notice my eyesight has started to improve since i started it) and has arrested kidney decline related to diabetes

so it might go well beyond the mere stopping of pain...it prevents further nerve degeneration from the by products of sugars being broken down in the digestive system

and i haven't read about any side effects, which may be related to it being an actual vitamin deficiency, even though the compound is synthetically derived (regular water soluble b1 cannot be taken in the amounts needed to produce the effects)

I think the B vitamins excess just gets peed out?

I was on sulbutiamine and had to put s stop to it, skin symptom and stinky pee pong/body odor pong.

Also built up tolerance and it was meh in the end.

Interesting effect on dreams though.

Re: benfotiamine, fat soluble vitamin b1, for nerve pain e.g. diabetic neuropathy and shingles
I'm a bio-chemist, and a nutritionist and I've been personally using and recommending Benfotiamine to clients for several years with remarkable results.

It is a fat-soluble form of B-1, and thus stays in the system way longer, and isn't "peed out" right away. I've had great success with less than 1 gram per day. I use Life Extension products personally and in my practice and they are amongst the best. For Benfotiamine I use Swanson Health Products which is the number one rated online and catalog vitamin company in the world because you can get the same product less money. They have a 160 mg size for $5, and the 300 mg size for $10 and even using 2/day it costs between $5 and $10 per month for a bottle of 60 capsules (320 mg to 600 mg per day).

Benfotiamine is also amazingly good for the circulatory system and kidneys in addition to the neuropathy benefits. That is what I use it for. In addition to Benfotiamine, I would add R-Alpha Lipoic acid, Enteric coated 2400 unit strength Bromelain 500mg, and 95% Curcumin 500 mg which are a fabulous adjunct for serious cases of neuropathy.

I hope this helps!

Re: benfotiamine, fat soluble vitamin b1, for nerve pain e.g. diabetic neuropathy and shingles
Benfotiamine is effective for all forms of neuropathy, which can be greatly relieved or eliminated in as little as a month, especially if one is simultaneously using methylcobalamine 4mg liquid(best form of Vit B-12) sublingually to optimize absorption. Also, 500 mg of R-Lipoic Acid per day (the active form which is 10 times more effective than L-Lipoic Acid). Improvement if often noticed very quickly and progresses until it ceases to be a problem. A good B-vitamin combination is a good idea to fill in gaps, especially advantageous is Vit. B-2 for nerve regeneration synergy with the other items I've mentioned above and in a previous post above.

Water soluble goes out the pee, fat soluble binds to fat and can build up to toxic levels since it isn't expelled quickly.

I would ramp the dosage down to the minimum therapeutic level after the initial dose, perhaps .10g - .25g will work just as good over time.

Please understand water and fat soluble vitamins and minerals.
