Gluttony is a sin, so why is a so called christian nation (US) having obesity problems?
Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items to the point of extravagance or waste.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Putting on weight and storing fat means the energy of the food people eat is wasted, not used for anything in their daily lives. So how can any overweight and obese person in the US possibly call themselves a good christian? How do these people justify this to themselves and those around them?

Good question. I suspect people like to choose their sins and make excuses for them while looking down on other peoples sins. It's the "log in your own eye" thing.

I have no idea what you mean by that or what you're trying to imply. However by your capitalization of the C, I would say you're an overweight or obese christian who has trouble accepting reality and truth.

The food in the U.S. is filled with GMO's and preservatives for starters. Very little of what you can buy either at a restaurant or at the grocery store is even authentic food anymore. I'd be willing to bet this is where the obesity is coming from.

Peace.

Probably because our food is overly processed and has no nutrients, so the body thinks it's being starved and stores it. Mega-corporations maximizing profits at our expense.

I mean come on guys and gals, I really want to know what you overweight and obese christians think of the whole gluttony thing. Everyone knows the 7 deadly sins. So how do you justify your gluttony? Just ignore it? How can anyone who is obese or very overweight possibly call themselves a christian, much less a good one.

I didn't know a nation that has a hundredfold more choices of food and virtually everything else was forced to buy bad food. So these corporations, they come to your house, point a gun to your head and make you eat their food? These companies are what they are because of what people's demand made them to be.

Why blame food? Food doesn't ram itself into their mouths without them knowing, it's always a conscious choice to eat and a conscious choice to buy that food and eat more than their bodies require to sustain themselves.

The reason for all this bad, processed food is the gluttonous desire for food to begin with! And the reason good healthy food is expensive is because there is less demand for it.

What kind of loving christian are you to try and attack me for no other reason than your fear of the truth and a valid question which has not been answered by a single christian. I'd like an answer from a real christian if possible, not these fearful fakes who just use the label of christianity to make themselves feel better.

It may be a contributing factor but a minor one. The major one being the input of food into the body which is then converted to energy for use and the waste converted to fat. And if medication does induce weight gain, the solution would be to offset the side effect by consuming less food. I've seen too many people in my life eat to excess and gluttony, then cry about being fat.

Yep!

As for the original posts question.

1) High fructose corn syrup. Contain a lot more calories than the "taste" indicates. (and, it's shoved into just about everything, even pizza sauce.)

2) "Diet" soft drinks. Trick the mind (and the person) into thinking that they can drink all they want with no consequence. In part this is due to the blood sugar levels not changing to reflect what the body thinks it should expect from the intake. In effect, this trains the "subject" to consume more and more.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what certain products have to do with being gluttonous. Do these soft drink companies and food companies force you to buy these products? Do they threaten you or your families unless you buy their products? I am a bit confused here...

Why do people blame food and companies who sell them? It's these overweight people who are buying these from them and keeping them in business, giving them all these profits and forcing them to supply what they demand by voting with their wallets.

I get it, there is bad food and drinks, but water has no HFCS in it last time I checked. Nothing really explains why a majority christian nation accepts and ignores the sin of gluttony.

However calling the entire population of the US as gluttonous? Really?

Are you and your ignorance aware that cattle are fed growth hormones here?
Are you also aware that those same growth hormones, that are helping cows produce 10 times more milk per day than normal, can also adversely affect people?

Obesity and gluttony are not the same. Check your dictionary.

Are you aware that people's gluttonous desires are what make these farmers and companies go to such lengths to provide such amounts of food and drink to satisfy demand? Basic economics. The supply would not be there if the demand was not.

Other animals produce milk, no one forces you to buy cow's milk, and as always there is a choice. Where did I call the entire population of the US as gluttonous? I don't recall or see anything like that written by me.

Obesity is being very overweight, people become overweight because they eat more than their bodies use and the "waste", or wasted food, gets converted and stored as fat. That is the very definition of gluttony. If the body used everything people put in it, there would be no fat, so fat is merely a sign of wasted food.

Re: Gluttony is a sin, so why is a so called christian nation (US) having obesity problems?
Because the weight problems for the most part in the US are not from gluttony.
They are from the soy and gmo corn and high fructose corn syrup and other poisons put in our food that messes with the metabolism.

Add that to a lifestyle which almost requires one to be sedentary and you have an overweight population.
