I am east of Raleigh. Seems like we have had a few tremors. Felt the one that damaged the memorials in DC.

Re: ground shaking in North Carolina
I've been through multiple small quakes on the west coast, but nothing like that one we had in NC in the 80's. I've never felt anything like that.

NC and SC quakes don't do that little gentle shakey thing that knocks the pictures off like we do here in Oregon, in NC just get one loud boom and there your microwave is in the middle of the kitchen floor.

I felt something in Raleigh, but honestly can't remember whether it was last night or today. Felt stronger shaking on the outer banks Sunday.

yeah this one was 3 little small ones but each one was so quick. That is why I knew it wasn't my daughter, and when the dishes started rattling I knew something was up. Then my lamp almost fell off my desk with the last one.

It was like little waves in a way however when the big one hit and did the damages in DC that one knocked me right off the couch it was so hard. Then we had a smaller one about 30 seconds later with that one.

Re: ground shaking in North Carolina
South Carolina had one on Monday. A 2.1 but still. Charleston was hit by one of the most devastating earthquakes in U.S. history back in 1886. The 7.3-magnitude earthquake crumbled much of downtown Charleston. For an area that doesn't have many quakes, two in two days makes ya think. One more thing for people not familiar with N.C., The area that had the earthquake is NOT in Eastern North America as the info. states. More like, south/southwest.

I felt the DC one too, but not as strongly as you. A friend called immediately and asked if I'd felt it, and then I knew I wasn't just imagining things. We both live by creeks that show exposed bedrock on the bottom. [In other words, our houses are right on top of bedrock.] Wonder if that would make you more or less likely to feel the quake? B/c a lot of locals didn't feel it, but some people as far away as Atlanta did.

Re: ground shaking in North Carolina
Weird OP but I was standing at my kitchen sink earlier tonight and could have sworn the floor was moving. No one else in the house said anything so I just kept quiet.I actually looked at the security cameras to see if anything was happening outside.I am in central east Ky.
