Crop circles have been appearing in Europe since Viking
times. The king of France asked the Bishop of Lyon, in the
year 800, to explain the strange patterns that kept appearing
in the fields around the town of Lyon. Commoners were
forbidden by the Church to touch the straws inside the
circles.
