is entertainment a form of possession?
i started trying to research a lil on why we as humans have a constant desire for entertainment and began pondering the meaning of the word entertainment. i came across this persons definition (below) however i have not been able to verify it. i figured some glpers might have some comments on this. thanks in advance for your comments and ideas.

It is true.

While you are being entertained, you are not working on you.

You are allowing outside forces to mold you.

So yeah, its some sort of mind control.

But thats not to say you cannot enjoy it.

Have to fill in the time somehow.

Stories in any format are capable of communicating great truths, as well as great lies, that a plain lecture can't.

Because we are comsummers of experiences and emotions, dude. Look at the Arts, Music and Literature. They are Banks of experiences and emotions. Nobody can experiment everything in one single life or has the chance for some experiences. that's why we need canned emotions and to "feel" and learn from the experiences of others. The audiovisual enterteiment is ideal for that, and the virtual reality is only one step beyond toward the "most vivid sensation". Human condition, we are so.

You can't be entertained without being re-programmed somehow. So yes, its some sort of possession of the mind.
"The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title."

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Re: is entertainment a form of possession?
IMHO, this is one of those situations where answer to the question is dependent on the observer.

For example, I watch certain films that are meant to be entertainment strictly for educational purposes. When I'm watching a film strictly with the intent to learn, it's no different than watching a documentary or reading non-fiction with only learning in mind.

When I'm watching something strictly for entertainment purposes, it is easy to become possessed by the content.

Entertainment is masking the fear of being alone with your thoughts and with who you really are! Reality and truth are just too hard to swallow from some people.

Art is a lie that tells us the truth - Picasso

Some things can only be expressed through symbolism/entertainment/art for many reasons.

1. Censorship

2. The issues are too brutal for most to deal with head on

3. There are some issues/things where language is incapable of describing them and we must use other methods such as symbolism/entertainment/art.

You have a VERY limited understanding of what "reality and truth" are based on what you wrote above.

Language is inadequate to describe a lot of "reality and truth" and symbolism/entertainment/art open the door to breakthroughs in understanding that I believe sometimes wouldn't be possible otherwise.
