Xertious User ID: 31476352 ![]() 08/07/2013 09:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | VPN services are no longer secure, what's happened recently? A VPN is a little more complex than that, but effectively it expands your own personal network (however many computers you have and a router/modem). Buying a VPN is not illegal, they have no legal obligation to turn over financial records. IE they can't just turn around and say we suspect somebody of wrongdoing, give us his details. They'd have to be court ordered which then would require them to prove you're using the service for illegal purposes. Communication between you and your VPN are secure . Most VPN providers do not and will not keep traffic logs (and have no legal obligation to do so). Your security is only reliable as your provider. Buy or rent your own server then setup a vpn, then only you can see logs if you set it up to log you. Or you could do your own research . - Made a typo in a post and lost Karma :< |

Congrats. No, yours was more like, "Oh Lawdy Lawd, VPS' are unsecure" Mine was more like point out the problems in your post and point out the problems with a vpn provider releasing details, they'd need to show you was doing something illegal on the vpn, yet to see that they'd need to see what was going on within the VPN first. I would fight to withhold data from a third party. If I can and would there will be others like me out there willing to do the same. - Made a typo in a post and lost Karma :< |

VPNs use something similar to SSL, called IPSec. Only data you can get from them is source and endpoint. - Made a typo in a post and lost Karma :< |

Being the end point is the website accessed, start point is from the VPN. But the start point before the VPN is your direct IP. Your a shill man, admit it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35728374 ![]() 08/07/2013 11:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I could be the admin of Radio shack website, check someones IP via cpanel logs or apache logs. I can do a ip trace of the IP and see that it is of a VPN network. I can then trace the host name to find the VPN network it is from. I can then blah blah blah. X. you have no idea what you are talking about. |

loreak User ID: 44517098 ![]() 08/09/2013 04:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it is funny that people actually trust VPN companies Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12270240 how do you know who is running the company? .gov at sufficiently high enough levels can see into the data stream anyway regardless of encryption it is naive to believe otherwise Unless they have either quantum computers, or classical computers generations ahead of what is out now they aren't decrypting our traffic. If you are relying on a 3rd party for your VPN then essentially it is just proxying your connection and they could view what you are doing because they are decrypting it before sending your traffic out. The only way to be 100% secure is to use your own vpn where you control both ends so for web browsing you are always vulnerable from the other end. |
