Marines in Afghanistan no longer being fed LUNCH!!!
I have a friend whose husband is stationed in Afghanistan. He is a Marine - not sure what he does - I know when he was here was a Drill Sargeant at a training base. My friend posted on Facebook this morning that the marines at his location are no longer being fed lunch due to "budget cuts." WTF?!?!? I can't even articulate how angry this makes me...

Re: Marines in Afghanistan no longer being fed LUNCH!!!
I do not want to come off negative or argumentative, so I'll apologize in advance if it appears as such.

I was deployed once, and our meals were cut from 4 hots a day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mid-rats) to only 2 hots a day (Lunch and Dinner).

the reason for this was the lack of trustable contractors to deliver the food, the food in Afghanistan has to be delivered by trustable local citizens there. meaning it has to be on a refrigerated truck and come from a food source that is up to American standards as far as health concerns and what not.

When they cut our hot meals down, they substituted them with "MRE"(Meals Ready To Eat). shortly after we were able to get our 4 hot's back.

Your friend being "denied" Lunch may very well be for health/safety concerns. If the American government want's it's soldiers to perform at their peak ability then they HAVE to feed their soldiers, so him/her being denied lunch is probably only temporary and it will be supplemented with "MRE's"

Not negative or argumentative at all. Interesting thought...Perhaps there are safety issues that are preventing meals from getting through. I hadn't thought of that. This is one of those kind of friends who I have known for years, but havent seen in ages and I only hear about things on Facebook, so I dont have the full story I'm sure. Thanks for your input! hf

I was fortunate in my deployment, my base was never attacked, we never had a delivery driver attempt anything.

Jingle truck drivers are not all bad, some of them were very nice and very good spirited. not all those guy's over there are supportive of Al-Qaeda.

I understand,

when our 4 hot's were cut down, lol alot of my battle-buddies took to facebook to vent. and thinking back on it, it appeared to come off alot worst then it actually was.

the food over there that come's on the trucks has to be inspected by the military cooks and the contractors working with the soldiers to ensure no "bad apples" contaminate the rest of the food supply.

Especially given the current alert on over-seas embassy's and the travel alerts, I would suspect our Government start limiting the accessibility that local nationals have to our bases.

9/10 times, you could help your buddy by sending non-perishable's such as chips, trail-mix, candy, soups, etc. lol we can live like college kid's at time's on junk food for a little while's.

Hope your friend remains safe and diligent.
