What's the origin of the legend that a zombie can turn another person into a zombie?
We've all seen it in dozens of zombie movies but...

What's the origin of the legend that a zombie can turn another person into a zombie?

Any truth in it? What do you think?

If there is any truth to it whatsoever then it's a big deal because radiation poisoning will probably create real zombies.

What are you gonna do in the following hypothetical situation (quoting another GLPer):

Imagine the effects of radiation poisoning

Teeth and hair falling off in chunks
Skin discolouration
Skin peeling off
Joints deforming making it difficult to move normally
Balancing nerves in the ear effected thus struggling to balance while walking
Vocal cord badly effected by radiation
After initial discumfort and great amount of pain, radiation effecting pain nerves and body not being able to feel pain
Radiation literally destroying most of the brain that is responsible for feelings and logic

So now I ask you to visualise this...

Raidiation from fukushima has affected the world ...
You have managed to find some sort of shelter in the area with least amount of radiation
Suddenly from a distant a group of people who have been badly effected by radiation have found their way to your camp

What do you see?

Grotesque figures with hair, skin, teeth falling off
Parts of body rotting
Walking and barely able to balance themselves
Miss shaped joints that makes their bodies look bent
Trying to speak but only muffled sound coming out
You try to plead but no logic, feelings, compassion or understanding is present

You aim the gun you are carrying towards them and fire. It hits them in the arm but no reaction is present through lack of pain nerves. The only way to stop them would be through the heart or the brain in order to stop the body from functioning

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIER?

DO YOU THINK ALL THIS IS JUST A FANTASY?
THINK AGAIN!!!

Thanks but I think it may be something real.

Think about voodoo zombies, they're made that way because of chemicals in their body. It makes sense that if a real voodoo zombie bites you you could become a zombie yourself because the chemicals may be transmitted into your body.

Extrapolate that to radiation poisoning. What if you were lucky enough to stay healthy and then you were bitten or kissed or something by a radiation zombie, then you may become a zombie too.

And think about this:

You keep yourself healthy from radiation but your family or friends or co-workers don't.

Yes, they may make you a radiation zombie.

So, there may be no escaping this period.

I understand why people are ignoring this thread. Most people hear the word "zombie" and they think only of Hollywood zombies.

But, voodoo zombies are real and they have been scientifically documented. The type of zombie that radiation will produce is similar to a voodoo zombie.

I think everyone should add that to the topics of things to get familiar with while you still have time.

Well, if you ate a radioactive person, then yes you would ingest poison.
People bad off as you described would not be running around.
Nor would they look too tasty.

That visualization creeps the shit out of me.. Even worse that it can even be used with radiation..

George Romero made Night of the Living Dead as his adaptation of "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson but changed the antagonists to zombies instead of vampires and thus the idea that zombie can spread their affliction.

most original zombie movies mentioned some sort of virus or biological agent as the culprit.....as most viruses can be transmitted by bodily fluids.....it was a no-brainer zombie atribute to infect while munching.

28 days/weeks later infected are more likely to be real then a zombie.

But i do love the entire genre.

bath salts included.

This is all speculation. I'm speculating, you're speculating, everyone is speculating about Fukushima because we're in uncharted territory. We can't say much with absolute certainty.

It probably came from rabies, where one animal bites another and it goes crazy.

The real question is why zombies don't attack other zombies. They're always shown as having a hoard intelligence

If ever there was enough radiation to turn people all over the world into zombies. No one would live. Zero People. So its fun to think about but.. I mean come on don`t take this serious :)

Maybe the Bobonic? It's a great question. I love Romero's first three Dead films so much satire and whimsy among the gore!
