30 times more strontium-90 than cesium at Fukushima… and strontium is “much more dangerous - surprised by how much continuing radioactivity
PBS: 30 times more strontium-90 than cesium at Fukushima… and strontium is “much more dangerous… this is a problem” — Researchers far from plant “surprised by how much continuing radioactivity they found” — Like “ongoing experiment” (VIDEO)

ARJUN MAKHIJANI, engineer specializing in nuclear fusion and president of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research: [...] now they have found strontium-90, which is much more dangerous [than radioactive cesium], at levels that are 30 times more than cesium [See also: 100 times]. [...] And the unfortunate thing about strontium especially is that it bioaccumulates in algae, it bioaccumulates in fish. It targets the bone, because it’s like calcium. And so this is a problem. We don’t have measurements far out to sea. The Woods Hole Institute has done some surveys. And they were surprised by how much continuing radioactivity they found, but no clear explanation yet. [...]

MAKHIJANI: We actually sent a proposal to Japan two years ago, some colleagues of mine and I, saying you should park a supertanker or a large tanker offshore, and put the water in it, and send it off someplace else so that the water treatment and the water management is not such a huge, constant issue. But…

JEFFREY BROWN, PBS: It sounds like still an ongoing experiment.

MAKHIJANI: Yes. [...]

Bioaccumulation. And you did not provide a link.

Kyodo: Tepco ‘reverses’ position — Admits Fukushima plant’s groundwater is contaminated with radioactive cesium — Wanted to dump it into Pacific Ocean

Hey no problem with a little more Cesium, 'cause the scientists say it has no affect on fish like the Bluefin tuna you eat. Their study proves it.

There is no reality today. We live in a world of perception because the psychopaths distort and control, the real story.

No credible scientist would use 2 year old data that is subject to massive change, to prove conditions 2 years ago would be the same as to date. Those persons should not be considered researchers, they should be labeled as propagandists and junk science shills. How any reasonably thoughtful person would not reject this research protocol, methodology and conclusions, is beyond me.

Here’s the study’s conclusion using 2 year old data that supports their junk science…assuming the radionuclides in the Pacific are unchanged since 2011. UFB!

Asahi: Radioactive contamination ‘soaring’ in Fukushima groundwater — Strontium and other beta emitters up 4,500% in recent days; Cesium rises nearly 1,500% — Tepco says it doesn’t know why levels spiked (VIDEO)

NHK, Aug. 6, 2013: [...] on Monday, TEPCO detected high levels of radioactive substances in groundwater collected at a monitoring well close to the turbine building of the No. 2 reactor where highly radioactive water accumulated in its basement. The level of radioactive cesium was 14 times higher [960 Bq/L vs 65 Bq/L] than the reading logged last Wednesday. Strontium and other radioactive materials that emit beta rays were 46 times higher [56,000 Bq/L vs 1,200 Bq/L]. TEPCO officials say they do not know the cause for the spikes, and they will further look into how contaminated water has spread and what effects it has brought.

Asahi Shimbun, August 6, 2013: Radioactivity levels soared 47-fold over just five days in groundwater from a monitoring well on the ocean side of the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the plant operator said Aug. 5. Tokyo Electric Power Co. said 56,000 becquerels of radioactive substances, including strontium, were detected per liter of groundwater sampled on Aug. 5 in the “No. 1-5” monitoring well, which is adjacent to the turbine building for the No. 1 reactor. The previous measurement for the well water was made on July 31. [...]

Tepco Press Release, Aug. 5, 2013: [...] the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings [...] Groundwater observation hole No. 1-5 (west of the groundwater observation hole No.1-3)

If you take the air filter out of your car and measure it with a geiger meter, the meter will go crazy. There is heavy radiation everywhere now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41973644

The result of a test like that shows something much more threatening than radiation. It shows the presence of nuclear isotopes. If it shows in a difference in geiger counter readings between the filter, and just regular air, that most likely indicates an extreme threat to human health, but one that may take decades to take it's toll.

Don't worry about the levels of the radiation itself killing you, because if it is only ionizing radiation, a human may do alright with magnitudes of higher level (that is how they deceive). But on the other hand, even the smallest trace quantities of radioactive isotopes can be deadly in the long term.

I take measurements of air filters and the environment using a geiger counter here in central Mexico too. Although it is a crude sort of test, I have not noticed any difference yet in the readings.

I don't desire to return to the US to take readings of air filters thereyeahsure, but I have heard quite a few reports of high air-filter readings.

To anyone who understands, that should be an alarm and siren to get the hell out of the region. No point in staying to try to convince others. Pointless really. They will not even realize until ten or twenty years later, and by then it would be far to late. They will blame the cancer on other causes anyhow.

AC 44863603 ..... You are NOT taking into consideration the FACT that the strontium you eat/inject is NOT comparable to radiation OUTSIDE the body VS radio active particlesINSIDE YOU !

Once INSIDE, it has hundreds of YEARS, to send out radio active particles, EVERY ONE of which HITS some cell of your body, causing DNA damage, mutations and possible start cancer.

Good to watch this video.

Dateline visits one of the most contaminated places on earth - the ghost towns around Fukushima - to see the effect of the nuclear meltdown two years on.

Re: 30 times more strontium-90 than cesium at Fukushima… and strontium is “much more dangerous - surprised by how much continuing radioactivity
So, so far, we have been concerned about an element called cesium, cesium 137 and 134, which is radioactive. But now they have found strontium-90, which is much more dangerous, at levels that are 30 times more than cesium.

So to give you an idea of the level of contamination, if somebody drank that water for a year, they would almost certainly get cancer. So it's very contaminated.
