Pennsylvania Department of Health to distribute free potassium iodide pills
The following information is from the Pennsylvania Department of Health:

"The Department of Health will provide free potassium iodide tablets Thursday, Aug. 8, to Pennsylvanians who live, work or attend school within a 10-mile radius of one of the state’s five nuclear power plants.

Potassium iodide, or KI, can help protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine when taken as directed during radiological emergencies. Individuals should only take KI when told to do so by state health officials or the governor.

Has there been any strange recent on-goings in regards to these nuclear plants? I'm interested to know why this specific location - or is this the only town which bothers to half-ass try to help their residents?

...

First time I've ever seen a public release like this, but I don't think I've ever lived near a nuclear reactor.

However, I have lived in ND which is like living in the world's third largest nuclear power next to the US and Russia. blink I never believed the people were guarding empty silos, but with the way our government spends money?? They probably paid someone to guard an empty silo.

Yeah kinda..

The villiages of croton and ossining both give out free pills due to the proximity to Indian point. In westchester this is no big deal..

I think this is quite prudent.

In NW-Europe we had them all when we lived close to a NPP,
just a average Protection but far away from harmless!

Please read the Manual before you use them!!!

FYI: We got them here in Tokyo too after 03/11,

For the locations around the nuke plants it actually is.

I have several family members that live out by Limerick and a few by Three Mile Island, and once a year, they distribute the packs of the potassium iodide.

I grabbed a few extras from them when Fuku blew just to be safe, wound up NOT taking them, and now have hypothyroidism... Silly me.

Do you have to take them all the time? Or are you given a supply for "just in case"?
