Hey I1. Watching the news. My son and his family live in Abernathy in a trailer. I finally got a txt back from him. Everyone is at the school in the basement.

AT 11:02 PM CDT, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A STORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THIS POSSIBLE TORNADO WAS LOCATED 6 MILES SOUTHEAST OF COTTON CENTER, OR 8 MILES NORTHWEST OF ABERNATHY, MOVING SOUTH AT 10 MPH.

LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE, ABERNATHY.

KAMC just said it will arrive around 11:31. Confirmed wall cloud and hook echo on radar.

I'm a little nervous here in Lubbock about this one. We haven't had a compact supercell move towards the city like this in a long while. Winds are picking up out of the south and the lightning is putting on quite a show, but still not hearing any thunder yet.

AT 11:11 PM CDT, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL, AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR ABERNATHY, AND MOVING SOUTH AT 25 MPH.

Be safe OP! I'll say a prayer for you! I hope you have a basement or someplace safe you can go!

And after the rain you guys got last night, too. I'll have to go outside in a minute and watch the lightning. I'm a little SW of you, so it's still quiet here. I'm glad my dil was watching tv. They got to the school before it got bad.

Just talked to my son, Abernathy has let everyone go home. He said he doesn't see any lightning, except towards the south. It's raining really hard there, though. So far, everyone is ok.

Guys, Nikki Dee is on KLBK. The hook echo is still there. This storm has been tornadic twice already and she says the rotation is strengthening again. Storm spotter at airport has reported a tornado on the ground, but NO warning yet.

Thanks! Tornado warning cancelled, now looks like a hail storm and heavy rain. But I'll take the rain whenever I can get it out here!

Well crap I thought we were in the clear! I'm out for a friend's bday, so I sure hope it's not his last! Luckily there have been no damage reports so far....so far....

I don't think so just yet. The storm almost to Lubbock is starting to strengthen and there is another storm in Plainview and Hale Center that's starting to get strong. Be careful, kiddo. You know how the streets flood.

The airport is still seeing the funnel cloud. She's checking Amarillo's radar, can't see it on Lubbock's. They MAY re-issue the tornado warning. Don't know yet.

Tech is just now getting heavy rain. Watching the Overton skycam on tv. Nikki Dee is still watching the rotation. It is NOT tornadic now, but she's watching to see if it will again. Yikes! She just said golf ball sized hail. Dime size at Quaker and N. Loop.

I think you're ok for now, Informed1. It's been downgraded to a strong storm advisory, but tons of lightning. The next storm that's in Plainview is just a good, regular thunderstorm. It's just a longer line. It might even rain at my house with that one.

The bulk of storm #1 has passed the majority of Lubbock, but storm #2 is moving in. While the rain is VERY welcome, the extremely heavy rain just runs off and doesn't benefit anyone.

Just a lot of rain and thunder ... no doom .. though another line of storms is (was) on the way ...

I wouldn't say she's a bimbo, but she is blond. Ron seems to be on vacation this week and we can't get KCBD in on the rabbit ears. We're too far away to pick it up. I'd rather have either of them, too.

Any updates? I'm about 8 miles north of Lubbock. West of the airport... Trying to sleep, but I have a north facing window in my room :-/
Sounds like another storm is blowing in...

The 2nd storm will be there shortly. I think you should be getting outflow from it. It's just a good t-storm now. Heavy rain, lots of lightning, that's about it. I sure hope we get some rain this time. Our area always gets dry-slotted.

Oh yeah! It's been better this year, but kind of spotty as to where the good amounts have fallen. It'll take more than this to get us out of the drought. I hope the hail isn't too bad. The crops got hit early on and a lot had to be replanted. Gonna be an interesting year for the farmers.

It's been a kind of weird summer, though. It's been hot, but not as hot as it usually is and it's been really humid. I've only lived here about 20 years, so I'm not sure just how abnormal it is. I've never seen it like this. I want my dry heat back!!!
