Oswald LeWinter, according to authors Peter Hounam and Derek McAdam, contacted a Beverly Hills, California lawyer in March 1998. LeWinter reportedly claimed to have documents proving that British and U.S. intelligence agencies were behind the murder of Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed, in Paris, in August 1997. LeWinter's attorney contacted Mohammed Al Fayed, Dodi's father, and arrangements were made for LeWinter to sell the documents to Mohammed Al Fayed, in Europe.
McAdam and Hounam call it all an apparent hoax, "allegedly perpetrated by a group linked to the underworld and to various intelligence organizations." LeWinter was arrested when he tried to sell the documents to Fayed. McAdam and Hounam backtrack, however, from their hoax allegation on the next page of their book, Who Killed Diana? (ISBN: 1-883319-87-0): Reportedly, "agents for the FBI, the CIA, and possibly Mossad conducted a joint operation with the Austrian police, seen by some as overkill if it was all a hoax." If LeWinter was only selling fraudulent documents, trying to con Mohammed Al Fayed out of some money, why would the FBI and the CIA be involved in LeWinter's apprehension?
LeWinter pleaded guilty to the fraud charge. But reportedly the real circumstance was that he was offered a deal: "Either plead guilty to fraud and spend a couple years in jail, or else be brought back to the United States and face treason charges for trying to sell classified documents."
Within the past two days, Conspiracy Nation received an e-mail from Alexei Galkin, who says he is formerly head of a directorate of the Soviet KGB and a retired Lieutenant General. General Galkin's e-mail possibly sheds further light on the Diana case and gives background on Oswald LeWinter. Caveat lector. With all kind wishes for the well-being of Generals LeWinter and Galkin, readers nonetheless now enter a "spooky" world:
"Dear Sir, Fiat_Lux," [Let there be light.]
"Your story about Oswald LeWinter on an American site [Gas_oven] which has been brought to my attention is an old one. Although General LeWinter is a former enemy whom I met only once on his visit to Russia in January of 2002, I am well acquainted with his career."
"My name is Alexei Galkin. I am a retired Lieutenant General, formerly head of a directorate of the KGB. General LeWinter was a man both much feared and admired by knowledgeable intelligence officers throughout the Soviet bloc for his skills in disinformation and media manipulation. His work in Chile in the early 1970s, where he totally neutralized the El Mercurio newspaper, is considered a classic and was taught in numerous services in the bloc. His work on the 'October Surprise' case was so well conceived that even today the truth remains discredited. Many of us consider LeWinter the most brilliant CIA officer of his era. Since his forced retirement, his life appears to have been chaotic and he is living in what is reported to be a state of poverty and serious illness in Portugal. He has published two excellent books in the language of his adopted country. It is deeply saddening that a man of such qualities, after long years of loyal service to his country, should be reduced to living like this."
Conspiracy Nation replied to General Galkin, asking questions about the Diana/Dodi case. In his response, Galkin could only refer to it as a definite murder, and not an automobile "accident" as falsely reported by the mainstream press. According to General Galkin, Oswald LeWinter now has classified KGB files dealing with the Diana/Dodi case which he will use in a forthcoming book. General Galkin therefore does not wish to reveal what he knows, not wanting to "steal the thunder" from his old enemy, General LeWinter.
Conspiracy Nation. Now read in Russia.
