Recently, the rash of "booksellers" going door to door soliciting information has caught my attention. A couple of weeks ago we had a visit at our home. My wife told me about the visit later in the day. It is similar to what has been reported, a white male (blond hair, blue eyes) soliciting information about quantity children in the house, and claiming to sell books. He had some type of ID on a chain. He claimed to be from Minnesota and was driving a car with a Florida license plate. I was able to determine the car was a rental. My wife also told me he kept looking inside the house and also asked for a Band-Aid, possibly as a ruse to look inside. He was not allowed into the house.

Fast forward to today. At work I received a situational awareness bulletin (disseminated statewide) describing an incident where a federal officer had a visit from a w/m claiming to be a radio station intern and neighbor. The solicitor asked where the fed worked and had an ID card covered in words forming sentences with no meaning. The solicitor asked for a bottle of water (ruse to get inside the house) was refused and left. The solicitor was seen passing by several houses to go to a nearby local law enforcement officer's home, where he was also sent packing.

FYI I have been a law enforcement officer for nearly 20 years. Most of my time has been spent working as a Deputy Sheriff and I currently work as a state L.E. officer.

I had this happen. 2 of them came to my door saying they were students from Estonia and were asking questions about everyone on the street. How many kids, how old they were...etc etc...

They were aggressively trying to get in my house. Aggressive sales tactics i mean. I didn't let them in of course.

did you see that video at top of page? the data on the guy's sheet? not even social workers carry that kind of data around about the whole area. it had numerous addresses and names and ages -- demographics on that guy's tablet. Question is, what is this rally for? and why is law enforcement not investigating this or making arrest, or relaying information to their concerned public?

I didn't watch the vid because i knew exactly what you were talking about. I will though. I was freaked out also, thats why i made a thread about it and detailed what happened.

This guy had a note pad and a hand drawn diagram of the street with notes besides the houses. Scary part was he was getting this info from the neighbors! He was pumping me for info the same way. The back story was thet were from Estonia selling a learning system for children. They told me Estonia was a country close to Finland, which it is relatively speaking.

It shares it's entire western border with Russia though and finland is across an arm from whatever sea they have up their.(Baltic?)

Mine were more aggressive about getting in the home but were on my doorstep not outside my car. They will also treat you like you're an idiot if you don't want your kids to be smarter. It's one of their sales tactics.

I went door to door and did sales as well and we took the same information as he did about our customers. Do not become oppressive to other people because they are different, Be on watch always but do not treat people like trash because of a mindset, that is what Hitler did. no it's not! the video shows these people collecting children's names, ages, and whatever else they can muster, which is illegal to do without parent's consent. this is what pedophiles and murderers do, stalk and observe their victims.

If this was reported to me, in my county, these people would be in jail and court. why don't you go test your theory of data collection at a nearby school and let the teachers fix you up, by calling us and the sheriff dept.

All I can say Is I was a door to door Salesman like this years ago, and we used the same tactics, Write downs, grids ect, what is alarming though, I must admit, is taking the childrens information down, we only took down adult information for Sales purposes.

Worked For A LawnCare Company, Door to Door Sales as well as Telephone sales, we would grid out the Lawns, estimate measurements, as well as the streets, lawn care based on average income to know which areas would be more likely to buy Lawn care for their lawns, which lawns were treatable etc. such as Home owners associations, gated communities, etc.

I worked For Scotts Lawncare, one of the biggest Lawncare services in the world. No it is not Illegal to grid out an area based on higher sales revenue. We did not ask for income specifics, you can google areas and find those specifics, we can grid out streets, just like google earth and google maps does, people are not restricted to do so on Public Land.

I said we did not collect Childrens names etc, in my posts above, you said that I said that. Do not misrepresent my words. We took down information regarding interest, Our planned routes were based on sales response, and we marked these areas as high information based on the info we got back from people as well as the landscape and grids.
