During a press conference Friday, Todd McNeal, chief of Northern California's Twain Harte Fire Department, said that they now know that the fire was 'human caused' as there wasn't any lightening in the area when the fire started August 17. While they don't know what for sure started the fire, McNeal said that they 'highly suspect that it might have been some sort of illicit grove, marijuana-grow type of thing.' The problem isn't really an illegal fire ... it is a forest that has so much dead material in it where fire has been suppressed for so many decades that it is now a total tinderbox.
Fire in the Western US is NATURAL.
Fire suppression in the Wester US is UNNATURAL. By suppressing NATURAL REGULAR FIRES the government has loaded the tinderbox with super dry extremely combustible fuel that is just waiting for a spark, ANY SPARK. ANYTHING could have started the fire, and the results would still be the same. 100 years ago that was NOT the case since there were fires in those mountains on a regular basis thus they burned at lower temperatures and were not nearly as aggressive when they happened. Eventually fire IS going to consume MOST of the western forests ... and they are going to do it with MONSTER FIRES the likes of which have never been seen since the White Man arrived there. |
