You have to look at this from an academic point of view.

1. If a nation has a printing press, they can simply print money for democratically approved big projects that must be done. Non-discretionary stuff, like repairing a bridge. An emergency surgery for an uninsured person in a car accident, etc.
2. They can use consumption taxes to fund the stuff like wars. This allows for economies to self heal, and prevent bubbles in the first place.
3. Specialized labor out of the home is one of the most dignified things a person can do with their life. A doctor or engineer creates true wealth for many people. The worst thing that can happen is when these brilliant poeple hole up and only work on stuff that benefits themselves. Which is exactly what a logical person should do in a framework where the better they are at their job, the higher they are taxed on income.
4. Corporatism destroys democracy every time. 1 million votes means nothing compared to G.E.s ability to buy lobbyists. And they can write every bit off their taxes. You can not write the cost of the license plate on the vehicle you drive to work off your taxes.
5. If you look at 3+4, people say "Well they should incorporate" Nope. They should not. A doctor should not need to worry about a 50,000 page corporate tax code. They should not be at the mercy of accountants who do. They should be saving lives and learning new medical techniques.

Progressive income tax is much more wicked form of slavery than the original. And slavery is one of the least efficient ways to operate an economy. It causes terrible stagnation on every level. (technology, growth, quality of life, environment, etc)
