G20 Summit is taking place in Saint Petersburg Russia

A G20 Leaders Joint Statement will be adopted at the end of the meeting.

On September 5-6, 2013 the G20 Leaders' Summit will be held in St.Petersburg. The Summit, which is the culmination of the Russian Presidency year, will mark the 5th anniversary of the G20 at the Leaders' level.

Leaders' attention at their forthcoming meeting will be mainly focused on the issues of ensuring economic growth and financial stability, quality job creation and tackling unemployment, searching for the new sources of growth and investment financing, as well as strengthening multilateral trade and international development assistance.

The G20 Leaders will also take into account the recommendations elaborated by the Business 20, Civil 20, Labour 20, Think 20 and Youth 20 throughout the year of the Russian presidency. In addition, Leaders will meet with representatives of the business community and labour unions on the sidelines of the Summit.

The participants of the G20 Leaders' Summit have arrived at their first working meeting. Over the two days, they will discuss the priorities of Russia's G20 Presidency in 2013 and outline future plans.

Vladimir Putin holds talks with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe

Speaking about the outlook for cooperation with Japan, the Russian President said: "We intend to use new forms of cooperation between Russia and Japan. Two Russian ministers plan to visit Tokyo in early November this year: the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I firmly believe that this format will continue to promote our relations and to enhance our confidence in each other."

Vladimir Putin meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Speaking about the G20 summit in St.Petersburg, President Xi Jinping said it was "a crucial event, as the leading economies have come together in order to discuss the most important economic development issues."

"At the same time," he continued, "it is evidence of Russia's growing role in the world and its status as a great power. I wholeheartedly congratulate you on this. I would also like to wish the Summit every success."
