Ok so there are Russia's natural gas supplies to EU at stake here. Putin doesn't want that upset. Remember how EU was threatened by Russia to cut off the supply recently. There is a new massive gas field that some interests want to exploit and be the new EU supplier. If any western interests want to take over this natural gas supply to EU, it will have to be through Syria. Hence the current attempt to overthrow the current Syrian regime that is allied with Russia.

Why don't we use a different form of energy that doesn't require any foreign intervention in any other country.
