Now that NASA is effectively closed we are all reliant on other sources for our information on Comet ISON, but is this information any better than theirs?

Several theories are currently being purported on the internet from ISON is about to disintegrate to its getting brighter and we'll on course for a spectacular show around Christmas!

I personally feel you should take such suggestions with a pinch of salt until you can see it with your own eyes and make your own decisions on what, if anything you should do or indeed could do next!

You haven't got long to wait either...

Comet ISON reaches its closest approach to Mars in just over an hours time at 18:24 BST - 17:24 GMT as we all wait with baited breath to see what happens next!

Will it alter course, land on Phobos or electrically interact with the planet as many have predicted?

Hopefully sometimes later today we'll have the answers as amateur astronomers from around the globe scrutinise the images for those tantalizing clues!

But whatever happens next, the rollercoaster ride has already begun!

SPECIAL UPDATE

I've just come off the telephone after a long conversation with a UK astronomer who wishes to remain anonymous.

He contacted me to discuss the large coma depicted in the original NASA image of Comet ISON which he assures me is real and that the coma depicted at around 15 Arc seconds or 50,000Km in this image was indeed correct!

But then he told me something very interesting about the object which I suspect is incoming behind ISON and is probably the same object that was perturbing it a 5.8AU creating this huge coma in the first place.

He told me that I was on the right lines but looking in the wrong place. He added, "Since early in the deep Space program they have been looking at ways to ignite Jupiter" The reason why they would want to do this is unclear, but he claims the mysterious flashes and more importantly the disappearance of a belt around the Great Red spot is indicative of the planet heating up and trying to spontaneously combust. He also suggested that this heat source is probably the very one I have been pondering over?!

He is under the impression that Jupiter IS about to ignite in the very near future and that all the other planets in the outer system are showing signs of this pending event too with similar rises in temperature!

So, is he telling the truth?

I did some searching around and there seems to be some credence in what he is saying. If true it would certainly explain this mysterious heating of ISON so far out in deep space!

There are now reports that ISON is turning GREEN BLUE colour?

Images posted by Damian Peach do seem to suggest this and as I've suggested in previous updates there may indeed be something far more dangerous following in behind this very strange comet!

So this poses a question! Is this the BLUE KACHINA told of in Hopi prophecy AND is the RED KACHINA following behind as I myself have already suggested?

ISON is fast approaching Mars at a speed of just over 72,000Mph. It's closet approach will be at around 7 Million miles but even at this distance ISON should appear as big as our Moon in the Martian sky if the coma size is indeed in excess of 70,000Km as images released from Belgium and others seem to suggest?!

Bearing in mind that ISON probably has very little mass if NASA is to be believed, it's unlikely to have any physical reaction with Mars but it may be possible for it to have an electrical connection?!

There has also been some suggestions that ISON has changed course during its journey. If this is true I suspect the reason behind this could be connected to my previous observation that something unknown lurking beyond Jupiter was emitting energy and had perturbed it when it was first detected at 5.8AU! This would indeed add further weight to my argument that something else is indeed following in behind ISON?!

There have been reports of mysterious flashes on Jupiter over the last few years but these have been put down to meteors exploding high in its atmosphere that inexplicably leave no trace?? But could these mysterious flashes be the effects of an intruder close by electrically perturbing it?

Remember, if the intruder was on a much more inclined orbit to the ecliptic and it's mass was similar to that of Jupiters then the seesaw or Barrycentre would balance and little physical effect if any would be detected, but electrically it would be noticeable when they were both in the same area of space?!

SPECIAL BULLETIN

25th September 2013

Comet ISON was first detected when it was over half a BILLION miles from the Sun, but even then according to NASA's released image back in January, it had a coma of around 50,000Km in diameter!

How is this possible when accepted science tells us that comets don't form anything in the way of a coma or tail till they reach at least 4AU or less from the Sun?

Here's a current quote from UK astronomer Damian Peach with regards to ISON's current status -

"The comet is still pretty distant from the Sun at 2AU so typically you'd only expect to see it brightening slowly at this stage. The more rapid brightening is likely to occur within 1AU of the Sun. Many comets dont even have tails at this distance and ISON is looking healthy and its brightness level remains on course with predictions."

This statement seems in direct conflict with Bruce Gary earlier. (See special update article below)

So, it got me thinking. If applied science has no explanation for this large 50,000Km coma at such an early stage in ISON's development then what could possibly explain it?

Let's just think about that image released by NASA in January for a moment. We have two choices here, we either believe its authenticity and judging by NASAs current performance it's probably legit which would explain why they haven't released another one, or alternatively we dismiss it totally as erroneous?

If it's right then what are we looking at here?

A 3 mile rock with a 50,000Km coma half a billion miles away from the Sun, but surely that's impossible?!

Read this article - [link to www.livescience.com] - This article and Comet ISON's behavior would all make perfect sense if there was another heat source around 7.8AU or 780 million miles from our Sun, and this article seems to suggest that very possibility!

Now I'm NOT jumping on the Nibiru bandwagon here, but you do have to ponder the possibility that it may indeed exist in one form or another somewhere out in deep space but at such an angle to the ecliptic that we simply haven't spotted it yet? Remember this comet is coming in at an angle too!

So in summary here's what we've got. - Either a bog standard comet with another undetected dark heat source somewhere out between Jupiter and Saturn but higher above the ecliptic, OR something very large with massive GRAVITY is heading directly this way after it passes Mars!

URGENT UPDATE

This from Bruce Gary amateur astronomer observing ISON...


"Measurements on several dates (after reappearing from behind the sun) show that the comet is brightening at a lower rate than expected, as if the activity level on the nucleus surface is actually decreasing! ISON has probably passed the "frost line" so why isn't it brightening instead of fading with respect to a model?  I've begun to lose interest in this comet, which may never become visible to the unaided eye. I wonder why someone ever suggested that it could become "comet of the century"?


ISON's coma is now a staggering 70,000Km in diameter according to recent observations which is significantly large than NEPTUNE although it's still not brightening as it should, but could this mean that ISON really IS a roaming PLANET after all?

Time will tell, but maybe it's just started to get interesting?

Comet ISON for DUMMIES!

Okay, this is a thread for everyone who is Non-technical and Non-astronomical but wants to know all about ISON and what the potential is for disaster in plain simple English!

Firstly, what is a comet?

A Comet, according to the experts is just a ball of ice and dust that lurks far away in space in an orbit around the Sun, just like we orbit the sun!

Depending on how far away it is it can take years or tens of thousands of years before it comes around our way and we see it in the sky.

At a certain distance from the Sun a comet forms a tail. Some tails can be hundreds of thousands of miles in length and are made up of dust and gasses from the main body or nucleus!

When a Comet gets closer to the Sun it gets brighter because it "burns off" more of it's ice and gas at a faster rate, this produces something called a coma around it giving us that distinctive white ball ahead of the tail. A comets tail by the way, always points away from the Sun.

When a comet reaches its closest approach to the Sun it's called perihelion which is just a clever term for closest approach!

Not all comets survive perihelion because the Suns gravity can pull them apart, if this happens and any pieces survive they remain on the same course as the original comet.

Okay! Sounds straight forward enough, so what's the problem with ISON, if anything?

Well, there are many rumors and scare stories surrounding ISON. Some are just plain silly, but others might have some credence?!

When ISON was first detected last September it was hailed by NASA as a "Once in a Civilisations lifetime" event. Some accolade for something only just recently discovered you'd agree!

So what was NASA comparing it too? Why did they say this? Why do they still says this when it's now suspected to be uninteresting or even a dud - [link to solarsystem.nasa.gov]

It just doesn't seem to fit somehow, does it?!

So what DO we know about ISON for sure? Well, if we've been told the truth we know it's size to be around 3 miles in diameter when first detected at a distance of 5.8AU or 539,400,000 Miles. (AU is a clever abbreviated term for the distance from here to the Sun, known as an astronomical unit or 93 Million miles to you and I)

So, here we have a very small object Millions of Miles away moving quite slowly and yet even then it was hailed as something very special, so special that NASA gathered together a team of over 200 people just to analyze it and then forward that information on eventually to you and I, or so I thought!

So, as you Americans like to say, what have we got so far for our buck?

Well, so far not very much. One image was released by NASA in January, but that's it. They've also managed to loose a probe sent to investigate and image ISON which was named aptly enough "Deep Impact" - I hope it was insured?!

Moving on, there have been others who claim that the coma, remember that's the bit that gets bigger as it gets nearer the Sun, is anywhere between 50,000 and 120,000km in diameter, that's the size of Saturn by the way!

Now I've been trying to verify this information for weeks, but no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to find out the truth off the matter. Yes, we can get information from the internet or from NASA, but would you, or could you trust it?

But let's just hypothesize for one minute!

Let's just say ISON was around 50,000Km in diameter at its core which is around the size of Neptune what effects would or should it have on the Earth and to the other planets as it passes by?

Large objects have large mass. The gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn have large mass and hence a lot of GRAVITY! Now I don't know if you remember school days and someone said if you could find a bowl of water big enough you could put Saturn in it and it would float?! Well, ISON is pretty much the same I reckon, it's mainly gasses that we can see but what if its core or nucleus was really as big as Neptune and remember this is purely hypothetical, then logically it would have massive GRAVITY?!

So, if we have massive GRAVITY then something must happen to the other planets as it passes them by, but more importantly what effect would it have on us and our Sun?!!

It would certainly cause upheaval on the Earth if an object as large as NEPTUNE was in our back yard! Earthquakes would increase, not just in number but in magnitude too. Our weather would be affected as it electrically interacts with not just the Earth but also the Sun!

We know the Sun drives our weather. We know the Sun recharges our atmosphere and feeds the Earth with light and warmth, but it can also turn very nasty if you perturb it!

Have you ever heard of the term Barrycentre?

No! Well imagine a seesaw with the Sun on one side and the planets on the other, they balance!

Now, introduce another very large object with large mass and gravity on the side of the planets. Whoops! The balance tilts, and this is what would happen if you upset the Suns balance or Barrycentre by introducing such a large massive object into orbit around it.

The Sun WOULD REACT WITH MASSIVE FLARING that would be unprecedented in our world history!

Not a very nice day!

So, when will we know for sure just how big this Comets core really is and if there's any real danger that we should worry about?

Well, on the 1st of October the comet passes close to the planet Mars at around 7 Million miles distance, close enough for something to happen electrically if ISON is ANYWHERE near the size that I have hypothesized here. The electrical discharge between them wouldn't go unnoticed, believe me!

If there truly isn't anything to worry about NASA will take full advantage of the flyby to use the probes already orbiting Mars to image the comet from the Martian perspective but the question is, will they?

Anyone like to place a bet here?

So, if nothing happens then that's it, right?

Well, maybe not! Remember we talked about perihelion? Well if this chap is just a comet and it survives its journey around the Sun, it then heads back out again whence it came but worryingly as it does so it pass right over our heads!

The problem here is, what's in its tail?

They say that comets have brought plagues and pestilence in our distant past, but many dismiss this as pure conjecture! Well, maybe there right but then again what if they're wrong as this article from just a few days ago seems to suggest - [link to www.independent.co.uk] - So, comets could be transporting microbes to the Earth and we're just about to pass directly UNDERNEATH one...Brilliant!

So, there you have it pretty much. I'm sure there's more but I think that about covers the basics.

As I mentioned in the title, you should keep your eyes and ears open and use your own brain to assimilate the truth. If you need to be taken by the hand and led then this article is probably not for you and you should refer to others who may lead you unknowingly into the dark!
