There is something interesting on Stereo Behind HI1 which I've been monitoring all day!

Now I'm not jumping to any conclusions here but it looks to be in the right part of space to be coming from the general direction of Mars?

The other two objects together on the right is the Earth and Mercury so what's this other one?

"Veteran researcher Paul Wiegert says for several days in January 2014 Earth will pass through a stream of debris"..

that little gem starts at 49 seconds.. it says nothing about solar winds radiation pressure..

At 2.44 it states..

"When earth passes through the debris stream we will encounter two populations of comet dust, one swarm will follow Ison into the sun, the other swarm will be moving in the opposite direction pushed away from the sun by solar radiation pressure.. the streams will pepper opposite sides of earth simultaneously"

Do you not know what the difference between "tail" and "debris stream" is? We run into a comet's debris stream every time there's a meteor shower, but that doesn't mean we're passing through the tail.

The line denoting the "dust trail" is the equivalent of the debris stream left behind by a comet. It's not the same thing as its tail.

The Comet Tail
A comet generally has two tails, not one. One tail is due to the comet's dust particles, the other is due to ionized gas from the comet coma.
Dust particles form the first tail. This comet tail generally points back along the comet path (so if the comet is traveling right, the dust tail extends to the left).

Ions (electrically charged particles), which first come from the nucleus as (neutral) gaseous particles, are swept into the second comet tail. Because of the special interaction with the Sun's magnetic field, this tail always points directly away from the Sun.

There are two main types of cometary tail.
The Ion Tail (Type I)and The Dust Tail (Type II)

The "debris stream" or meteoroid stream is not the same thing as the dust tail. They denote two different things. Both have dust in them, yes, but you cannot use the terms interchangeably. An actual image showing comet Encke's dust trail (labeled with white lines) distinct from its dust tail:

So educate me again Dr Astro.. what is it exactly that Paul Weigert says we will travel through twice.. the Debris stream (rocks and ice) or the Dust Tail?... because he says debris stream... then says dust.. seems to me even the experts at Nasa do not know the difference..

The debris stream he's talking about reaching us IS just dust. Here's a formula you can use to estimate the size of the dust that will reach us:

As you can see, if you solve for dust grain size, it is inversely proportional to the acceleration it experiences relative to the comet. The reason is simple; the dust tail is formed by solar radiation pressure, which has a greater influence over smaller particles. If a particle were to have left ISON on January 1, 2012, well before it was even discovered, and at a sun distance in excess of 8.6 AUs, it would need a total delta-V (change in velocity) of about 2265 m/s to reach earth on January 12, 2014, when we are potentially going to encounter some of ISON's dust.

(I manually set the virtual spacecraft in the sim to the exact same state vectors as ISON for that time, then saw how much delta-V was needed to reach earth on January 12, 2014 - the number is listed under dV applied as Tot and is in m/s - I tested it to make sure the course actually did bring the test particle to earth on January 12 2014)

That's 64195200 seconds later. For the sake of simplicity, let's say that the acceleration needed (alpha in the above formula) is simply the delta-V divided by the time to reach earth (it's really more than that - the closer it gets to earth, the more delta-V is needed to adjust the course to reach earth from the course the nucleus is on, so we're being generous to the final grain size in this assumption). That works out to an alpha of 3.528x10^-5 m/s^2. Solving for the dust grain size, that works out to about 10 microns. That is about the size of the dust grains that can therefore be expected to reach us on January 12th

In fact we could extrapolate that in fact we are going to get more than just dusted by Comet Isons dust tail, since Paul Weigert and Nasa say we will pass through the Debris Stream .. Twice.. and according to the definition of Debris Stream, that is actually rocks and chunks of ice, not dust..

So which is it dear Dr Tellittomestraight?.. are we passing through the Debris Stream.. or are we going to be passing through the Dust Tail..
