This article was published way before the Elenin hype, it uses the abbreviation ELE dated 7/27/08 8:00pm
Therefore the claim Elenin hype was entirely without logic is false.

We have the technology to redirect asteroids, if one threatened us but NASA prefers the concept of blasting them out of the sky with Nuclear weapons.
