Obviously it's because of the pending federal shutdown.

Because obviously, we cannot survive without government over our lives ...

They were asking if mine was out as well - just checked multiple faucets and it is all good here, but this is very strange. One neighbor is right next door, 200 feet to the west. The other is about a quarter mile to the east. We all have city water.

This is is SE Pennsylvania (Berks county specifically).

And wonderful - as I write this, my wife just called out saying ours is out as well now. WTF?

why don't you do the neighborly good deed and run a garden hose with a turnoff/on nozzle on it, so they have water!

bumping to follow.
A flag flown upside down is a symbol of a country in distress. As a result of the many traitors and enemies inside our own government and the many unconstitutional acts, legislation and atrocities passed and/or committed against our lives, liberty and property, as well as a reckless foreign policy meant to enrich and empower an already wealthy group of 'elites' while wreaking havoc around the globe and committing atrocities against large numbers of innocent peoples in the name of 'spreading democracy', the United States is no longer a free country and the lives of its citizens as well as the lives of our brothers and sisters around the globe, are in dire danger and distress.

Just a few houses in one neighborhood? Not doom yet. If it's anything like what I've experienced, they'll shut it off without notice for fixing and maintenance, and it's happened on a Sunday. FWIW

Our water has been shut off multiple times this year. Something probably broke and it needed shut off to fix it. I would be expecting a call from your municipality soon. I think it's funny how one little thing happens and people cry doom. It's kind of sad.

Called the township where out water comes from. It is not a big water company the township provides water for i believe three municipalities. They said they have been receiving calls and are working to identify the issue.

And it seems the entire neighborhood does not have water as I have received a number of other phone calls from friends in different areas - all within about a half mile of my house. I checked the Reading Eagle (newspaper) and City / County Gov sites and there is nothing there so I'm assuming this is a localized issue. Again I don't think this is doom of any sort but it still has me feeling a bit creeped out.

I don't want to give out any location info more specific than Berks County, PA. I don't want one thousand GLPers calling a poor guy manning the phones at a township building.

If you aren't familiar with the area Berks County is in SE PA, 50 miles NW of Philadelphia, 100 miles west of NYC in the eastern foothills of the Appalachians.

This is how it begins. Three houses in rural PA, then next month 3 houses outside Bozeman, Montana have toilets backing up... and within 10,000 years, THE END OF EVERYTHING!!!

The area I am in is not rural at all. Reading is a city of nearly 100,000. The surrounding area is basically Philadelphia suburbs with farmland to the south and west. We have city water from a reservoir system that is pumped throughout the city and towns in the area. Philadelphia is an hour away, New York and Washington DC are a little over two hours. I am in the center of one of the most populated areas in the country. No one has wells in this area.

As someone said, it's probably a busted main. Go now and get bottled water, because if you don't beat the rush, then the Wal-Mart or supermarkets will be out soon.

When it comes back on, they frequently tell people to boil, so again, there's issues with water. Expect for several days to locate, troubleshoot, and repair it. It is Sunday evening after all, and while they a skeleton crew, they have to round people up with beepers and phones so, it could 2am when they end up physically working on it. No one works well doing maintenance with little sleep and in the dark. That's a highly realistic estimate of what you and they are up against.

Don't waste water. Save any that you have from cleaning or washing and use that to flush with.

If you have a hot water tank (nowadays a lot of people have tankless) then on the tank is a spigot. You have usually 40-50 gallons in there, but that should be your emergency water. That hot water will go fast. If you have a wife, then she'll want to take a bath while it's still warm.

If not, then you can turn off the power to the tank at your breaker box, close the gas line (if that's what you have), then hook up a hose to the tank and drain it off.

The problem is that a lot of times, the water has sediment in it at the bottom where the spigot is located. That makes a mess. It's why I've told folks in the Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF topic to intentionally check their spigots for this. Please everyone use this as a lessons learned and do this. It doesn't take long.

'Hope things work out quickly.

Not PA, just Harrisburg. Go further southeast in PA and you hit some wealthy counties and townships. In fact, the wealthiest in the state are there.

weird after all these doom threads lately on here i said to the mrs earlier, maybe we should start bottling up tap water just in case the shtf, how long does water stay good for in plastic bottles anyone?

Hi, I recently found hfan Arrowhead gallon dated 2007. Smelled fresh & tasted fine, I used it to water some plants. Bigger containers you might want to rinse with a light bleach solution. A droplet in a gallon does the job. Knew someone who has 50 gallon where it was recommended 1/3 cup of bleach. Water is better than gold.
