Federal government will shut down

House Republicans decided they would not attempt to pass any more bills late Monday to fund the government, setting in motion the first shutdown of federal agencies since 1996, according to two senior GOP advisers.

The shutdown will begin early Tuesday, following a bitter day on Capitol Hill in which the Democratic-controlled Senate rejected two separate House Republican proposals to fund the government with riders attached that would have impaled President Obama’s health-care law.

Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) intends to instead ask for a House-Senate conference to hash out the differences in the two chambers’ proposals – a process that would take many days and leave hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed awaiting the results of the negotiations.

I wish they wouldn't pay the employees for this free vacation, but they will. The govt. cld actually reduce its debt a tiny bit if it didn't pay them during the furlough.

most of the people that will not be going to work tomorrow will still get payed assuming the shutdown is not forever permanent. so really they get a payed vacation, just late pay.

1. The bill that passed the house was a big charade that made it appear that Republicans or those who voted "yay" were being tough on the ACA when in reality it wasn't and funded the whole thing.
2. They knew it was going to get defeated in the Senate so Senate Republicans played right along with the House bill.
3. Massie voted "nay" in the house. All Republicans that initially voted "nay" in the house knew exactly what was going on and weren't playing the game.
