Cascadia Subduction Zone research (and links)....Could this be the area where the "big one" occurs?
***********************EDIT***********************
4/25/12

Due to all the recent activity, I remembered this post from October and decided to re-bump it and spread the info!

Stay frosty GLP

Let me start this thread off by saying, THIS IS NOT A PREDICTION.

I was doing some research on USGS, despite being slow from the government shutdown, and I noticed the large amount of "quarry blasts" in the last week with an increasing number of quarry blasts in the last 2 days.

This made me curious...it was only showing quarry blasts in the West Coast, and I did a little research as to what might be happening because I had seen threads on GLP about it. The results are truly unimaginable in my opinion.

[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]

So to start off, where is this happening?

According to USGS (set on one day all magnitudes) shows 7 quarry blasts on the West Coast in the last 24 hours, 6 occurring in the Pacific Northwest.

If you are curious as to what geologic structures might be in that region, look no further!
I present the Cascadia fault/subduction zone....AKA

The Giant, Underestimated Earthquake Threat to North America (LONG ARTICLE, BUT INCREDIBLE)
[link to discovermagazine.com]

(Quote)
"It turns out that Cascadia is virtually identical to the offshore faults that devastated Sumatra in 2004 and Japan in 2011—almost the same length, the same width, and with the same tectonic forces at work. Cascadia’s fault can and will generate the same kind of earthquake we saw last year: magnitude 9 or higher. It will send a train of deadly tsunami waves across the Pacific and crippling shock waves across a far wider geographic area than all the California quakes you’ve ever heard about."

Okay so back to what I was saying about the quarry blasts in that area...prominent in last two weeks and increasing since beginning of this week (odd, right).

Oh and all the Quarry Blasts in the Pacific Northwest just so happen to fall on this fault line.
[link to www.standeyo.com]

BUT! Are quarry blasts a trigger for earthquakes/ can earthquakes be caused by man?

Yes. Or at least this seismologist who researches relationships between Earthquakes and Quarry Blasts thinks so...(seems legit, was in Japan advising Japanese when 2011 quake/ tsunami hit.

Name: Leonardo Seeber, a seismologist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

And if that is not a real enough source for you, how about the New York Times?
[link to www.nytimes.com]

More research on the location of the quarry blasts revealed that not only have they all fell somewhere on or near the Cascadia fault line, they have also been near a body of water, which is very worrying to me.

The quarry blast itself does create pressure, and that is released into the ground and sometimes returns in the form of an earthquake, but the damage from the blast to groundwater sources and seepage of those water sources (above and below ground) into the porous volcanic rock that makes up the crust in that area due to numerous surrounding volcanoes, is a very bad scenario.

The quarry blasts cause water intrusion and combined with the pressure already naturally there, it is a ticking time bomb.

Long story short.

Who could be causing these quarry blasts?...

Who has been warning the Pacific Northwest for a massive quake?

Who Do you think?......

Things to ponder....

A prediction (Latin præ-, "before," and dicere, "to say") or forecast is a statement about the way things will happen in the future, often but not always based on experience or knowledge. While there is much overlap between prediction and forecast, a prediction may be a statement that some outcome is expected, while a forecast is more specific, and may cover a range of possible outcomes.

Prediction on GLP means did you set a date? I did not...

I mean, come on, give me a freakin break. I didn't whore out the page with a bunch of nonsense. These are links, facts! And if I am implying something might happen, that is because the government, news sources, and several links suggest it too. In fact, the articles even set dates! I didn't type one measly numeral onto this page to avoid shills like you.

So take a hike, if you don't want to read it, don't.

Thank you, yes I would too...I don't feel like this got any attention at all and there a lot of legitimate links and good info on this subject.

And Puget Sound has some serious potential but I think that it will be a series of 2-3 damaging quakes when it happens. I say this based on some serious study of this subject. I think you will possibly see a major quake strike first on the Juan De Fuca plate lines in Northern California/ Southern Oregon, triggering a chain reaction in both directions of smaller quakes, and minutes later a couple more large quakes. One north of San Diego/ South of LA, and another around the Puget Sound area you mentioned...maybe a little south.

Just a guess, but an educated guess at that....

I just can't believe it will only be one big quake with the way the quakes have been swarming in the same geographical area/ along the same plate boundaries during the swarms

I did a search on USGS...just for the last 2 months (I'm on my ipad, so it won't let me do longer, too much data)

Quarry blasts are designated by the diamond shape for those who aren't aware...

If you create your own search, and put in max depth of 0, you can get most of these quarry blasts...

I also added the 'hazards' section on display criteria...

Took some screen shots:

First one is pacific NW area...

The line north to south of quarry blasts just in the last two months is concerning...as well as hazard coloring:
[link to i803.photobucket.com]

The next screenshot is the San Francisco area...

Notice encircling around the city:
[link to i803.photobucket.com]

The last screenshot is southern CA near baja...

[link to i803.photobucket.com]

Some of these quarry blasts are directly on and really close to plate boundaries...

I don't know what to think. Are they just being careless, or are they trying to literally have the west coast end up in the Pacific Ocean?

Depopulation comes to my mind...

Yes, actually I remember now!

Your thread was the reason I went off on this research spree!

I would love to team up to research this stuff with you.

In the last two months, I would have to say I believe it is a lot more connected and on a grander scale than I first thought.

But I would love to see how things like the New Madrid Fault/ Midwest EQ threat connects to the Cascadia Fault/ California EQ threat , and especially in relation to how fracking and these quarry blasts may be playing a role in triggering EQs and who is conducting these operations.

Re: Cascadia Subduction Zone research (and links)....Could this be the area where the "big one" occurs?
Great link. Just more proof in my opinion that something is fishy.

I know from personal experience that the recent and major uptick EQ's in North Texas is ALL man made. My mother and her family live in that area, and when I went to visit for Thanksgiving, the earthquakes were the brought up in EVERY conversation I had with someone in the town.

Then I stepped onto the porch and looked into the landscape and saw it plain as day. I saw countless wells dotting the landscape. Drills sticking high up in the air all across the area...

That area of North Texas is the most well known area (from people's perspective around DFW) for natural gas and drilling/ fracking operations.

And people wonder why it is happening? lol
