I find it amusing how humanity is trying to take credit for EVERYTHING now.

Actually no, most of what is written in the bible is based on true facts, however distorted the time line and actual events were. Symbolism is rampant. but most can be verified by other text if you begin to understand that religious leaders consider those other text to be myth.

It's far more realistic and logical to explore the likelihood that past civilizations were wiped out by reoccurring planetary and cosmic catastrophes ('events') caused by the cyclical movement of our solar system through the galaxy. In ancient times the peoples of those days would experience volcanos, droughts, earthquakes, and solar events and assume them to be the willful actions of anthropomorphic 'Gods' who were angry at them - then they would likely start sacrificing shit to appease them...
