Here's my take on all this.

Palestine was only a minor concern to Rome. That Rome would expend too much effort to concoct some grand scheme seems odd. Rome could simply (and did) march a legion or two in, rough up some folks, take some prisoners and make them slaves, and move on to more important things.

In the first century Rome was at it's prime. It's supremacy was uncontested and the empire stretched literally the entire circumference of the Med. It's just hard to believe that Rome was so concerned with piddly Palestine.

The title is misleading. It makes it seem like the scholar found a specific ancient text that has a "confession" in it.

It makes no sense considering that Jesus did not promote anything Roman and in fact Rome was against Christianity at first and killed many Christians. So ask yourself, if Rome created Christianity, why would they then try to stop it by killing it's believers?

Jesus did exist and he was a Jew and he promoted the Jewish laws and understanding of those laws as well as mercy and righteousness of the God of the bible, but promoted nothing of Roman ways. In fact when Rome finally accepted Christianity as it's "religion" it did so by corrupting it and mixing it's current gods and beliefs of paganism and turned it into something very un-christian. So why would they do that if they created it in the first place?

Roman Catholicism came from Rome yet most of it's fundamental teachings are not taught in the bible.

People can deny reality and truth all they want with whatever reasoning they create but in the end they will be guilty of denying the simple in-your-face truth of God and his plan of salvation.

This really is not a new idea but it is just that, an idea based on basically zero evidence, much like most Atheist claims against Christianity and the bible. This is usually because of ignorance of the truth and the God of the bible.

Of course no Atheist would ever acknowledge that it's extremely convenient that this so called fabrication just so happened to be made at the exact time the ancient Hebrew texts (which predate the Roman empire mind you) would predict the first coming of the Messiah who would be as a lamb sacrificed for the sins of many.

I also find it extremely unlikely that the Roman leaders understood the ancient Hebrew texts as deeply and thoroughly as is portrayed in the new testament by Jesus and others.

This idea that Jesus was "fabricated" by the Roman elite is obviously built on top of ignorance by those who believe it's claims.

the Matthew scroll seems to prove that the original versions of the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, Acts, and Revelation where in fact written in Hebrew and is the earliest Christian document dated at about the second century. they are direct copies of the original documents that were circulated in the beginning of the first church. direct quotes of Messiah.

as many of the words of Messiah are satirical puns on Hebrew stories and words used in Hebrew, the earliest writings are found in the Matthew scroll. which is Hebrew. and the first real stand the the first and early church's was against the incorporation of the Church under Roman rule. this is why we have accounts of Christians singing hymns as they are led into the Colosseum to killed for sport.
