I try to help everyone as much as I can. I take care of my parents. I work hard and I try hard. My Mom helped put her grandson through college because his father, her son, my brother was killed and my Mom helps her neighbors all the time and she would help anyone. We aren't rich but we aren't poor. We don't have everything we want but we have everything we need. In my family we take care of each other and do not expect anyone to save us but each other. It would have been funny if it were not so tragic . The U.S. is seen by the inhabitants of many poor countries as the center of the world , freedom and prosperity. While no doubt, it will be for a long time the most powerful country in the world. the rate of erosion of freedom and economic success is intimidating. These poor people were looking at the U.S. as a luminous pattern but if they only take the trouble to get to know them better they would be severely disappointing .

We are tolerant and intelligent, we have to be with the mix of cultures and belief systems here. Just because we haven't done anything yet doesn't mean we won't. Maybe we want to give them a chance to resolve their problems before we fly off the handle and resort to mob violence. This is our land, and we have worked hard to make it what it is, we don't want to destroy it with war if it is not necessary. This is called the civilized way of dealing with problems. Not saying it won't get there eventually, but for now we are watching and listening before we rebel.

A small story for you, Americans.


Yesterday morning, a group of 200 villagers, mostly elderly and children (the adults are working in EU countries) from a remote village in Romania, were protesting against Chevron.

The riot police quickly dispersed them. By the night (on a working day and torrential rain), 10,000 people were in the streets in Bucharest.


Guess what happened today? The villagers are still there, no riot police whatsoever and Chevron took out all the machines out of there.


If they call the riot police again...it is going to be very ugly.

Well said, OP. I agree 100%. The people of this country BLOOOWWWW. There aren't too many people who will actually stand up.

I will say this, though: A lot of us recognize the plight you speak of, and we have no plans to take action now, because action now would mean your traditional debate, protests, etc, that won't change a thing. For example, I witnessed a recent law being passed on the state level where over 1000 people showed up in opposition, and less than 50 showed up in favor, and all of the politicians side with the 50. All of the newspapers said there were only "dozens" of people in opposition, and they downplayed the poor turnout in favor. Even when the people speak, the politicians don't listen, and as such I'm reluctant to participate in anything going forward as it's mostly a waste of time.

At this point I'm just waiting for the collapse, as that's coming sooner than later, and it's probably the best thing that could happen at this point. I don't know if I'll survive through it, but it sure will be better than any changes we could make short-term.
