IS it made of Magnesium? This Comet is a First time..or so they seem to imply.. is it an "Ancient Comet? [link to www.space.com] [from site] The researchers looked for signs of olivine crystals around Beta Pictoris. This olive-green crystal is typically magnesium-rich when it first forms in space, as is seen in the most ancient comets in the solar system, unlike the more iron-rich olivine seen in asteroids. IS it made of Magnesium? you'll like this :) [link to trs-new.jpl.nasa.gov] [begin quote][about Hale Bopp] Direct emission spectra of both amorphous and crystalline pyroxene (enstatite) and olivine (forsterite) were obtained by Stephens and Russell (1979). Except for scattering in the wings, Stephens and Russell did not find any systematic differences between the transmission and emission spectra of their samples. Both transmission and emission spectra will be used here to interpret the comet spectra. The 11.2 pm peak and the 11.9 pm shoulder are attributed to crystalline olivine, based on the good spectral match with the measured spectral emis- sivity of Mg-rich crystalline olivine (Stephens and Russell 1979; Koike et Low-resolution 8-13 pm spectra with good signal/noise have been acquired hanner.tex; 6/05/1999; 13:25; no v.; p.2 THE SILICATE MATERIAL IN COMETS 3 al. 1993). The 9.2 pm feature (Fig. 2) corresponds to amorphous, Mg-rich pyroxene (Stephens and Russell 1979; Dorschner et al. 1995). The broad maximum at 9.8-10.0 pm is similar to that seen in many interstellar sources and is most likely produced by amorphous or glassy olivine particles. The overall width of the cometary spectral feature, the relatively flat top from 10-11 pm, and the structure near 10.5 pm can best be fit with crystalline pyroxenes. Crystalline pyroxenes have considerable variety in their spectral shapes. The orthorhombic orthoenstatite measured by Stephens and Russell has a narrow feature sharply peaked at 9.90 pm. While orthoenstatite and clinoenstatite are found together, clinoenstatite is the more common form in chondritic aggregate IDPs (Bradley et al. 1992). These pyroxene-rich IDPs have a broader spectral feature with major peaks in the 10-11 pm spectral region (Sandford and Walker 1985). An example of a composite spectrum composed of these 4 components is compared with the Hale-Bopp spectrum in Fig. 3 (Hanner et al. 1998b). The transmission spectrum of "Key" IDP (Sandford and Walker 1985) was adopted for the crystalline pyroxene; the other emissivities are from Stephens and Russell (1979). Other fits using similar components are presented in Wooden et al. (1999). SAT IMAGE [link to rammb-slider.cira.colostate.edu] IMPACT:Gulf OF Alaska! Read more: [link to www.answers.com] After a massive star has left the main sequence (see stellar evolution), it progresses to a stage where it burns helium in its core, and then carbon. Each burning stage provides less total energy to the system and consequently lasts a shorter period of time. Carbon burning, which produces neon and magnesium, lasts around 100,000 years. When the carbon is gone, the core resumes its contraction and heats until the oxygen residue starts to burn, producing silicon and sulfur—a stage that takes less than 20 years. Then in a week the silicon turns to iron. The supergiant is now layered like an onion as each stage of nuclear burning moves outward in a shell around an iron core of nearly 1.4 Msun. Iron, the most tightly bound of all atomic nuclei, marks the end of the road for a star since no energy can be gained from its fusion. Now the core is briefly supported by degenerate electrons. The density of the iron nuclei is so high that the electrons start to combine with them to form manganese, and the heat is so strong that extremely energetic gamma rays penetrate them and begin to break them back down into helium nuclei. Now that the electron degeneracy support and gamma-ray energy are gone from the interior, the core contracts faster and faster, then goes into a catastrophic collapse. The iron core flies inward at a quarter the speed of light. When the center of the incipient neutron star exceeds the density of an atomic nucleus, the inner 40% of the core rebounds as a unit. The outer core, still plunging inward, smashes into the rebounding inner core and rebounds in turn, generating a shock wave. In about a hundredth of a second, it races out through the infalling matter to the edge of the core. Modelers of supernova had then hoped that the shock wave would continue outward through all the layers of the star blowing it apart. However, calculations done by a number of theorists in 1989 suggest that in Supernova 1987A the shock didn't make it out of the core on its own. Neutrino emission may have provided the power that revived the shock. The core needed to contract even more before it could become a true neutron star and it did so by vast neutrino losses. The neutrinos were produced by the annihilation of electron-positron pairs made by the energetic gamma rays that pervade material at such high temperatures. The total energy emitted in the 10-second neutrino burst was enormous, about 250 times the energy of the material explosion. It is believed that a small fraction of these neutrinos revived the stalled shock and powered the great explosion of the star. IS it made of Magnesium? this is planet making... [link to www.answers.com] The kinds of sorting processes that I am referring to, here, are very large scale, and affected the distribution of all of the other materials in the solar system tremendously. These processes include things such as the differentiation of planets into an iron nickel core, with an over riding iron, magnesium and silicate mantle, and a crust of the lightest materials flaoting on top. Because chondrites predate these events, they are very valuable to geologists and geochemists as a starting point against which to compare other processes. Above we have discussed primitive Solar bipolar jets .. and now planet formation how about this EXPLODED PLANET HYPOTHESIS !!! [link to www.bibliotecapleyades.net] Abstract. The hypothesis of the explosion of a number of planets and moons of our solar system during its 4.6-billion-year history is in excellent accord with all known observational constraints, even without adjustable parameters. Many of its boldest predictions have been fulfilled. In most instances, these predictions were judged highly unlikely by the several standard models the eph would replace. And in several cases, the entire model was at risk to be falsified if the prediction failed. The successful predictions include: (1) satellites of asteroids; (2) satellites of comets; (3) salt water in meteorites; (4) “roll marks” leading to boulders on asteroids; (5) the time and peak rate of the 1999 Leonid meteor storm; (6) explosion signatures for asteroids; (7) strongly spiked energy parameter for new comets; (8) distribution of black material on slowly rotating airless bodies; (9) splitting velocities of comets; (10) Mars is a former moon of an exploded planet. IS it made of Magnesium? THOUGH IT SAYS THIS TOO, MAYBE TWO PARENT BODIES EXPLODED .. AND THIS COMET MIGHT NOT BE FROM THIS GROUP.. SOLAR COMETS ARE FROM A PARENT BODY THAT WAS "TOO SMALL TO BE CHEMICALLY DIFFERENTIATED!" sO ISON MIGHT BE VERY DIFFERENT THAN PERIODIC [ ORBITS THE SUN] COMETS.... IT MIGHT ORIGINATE FROM A CHEMICALLY DIFFERENTIATED ENVIRONMENT ALLOWING TO HAVE A UNIQUE COMPOSITION . [link to www.bibliotecapleyades.net] Main belt asteroids come in many types, but most of these are sub-type distinctions. 80% of all main belt asteroids are of type C (“carbonaceous”), and most of the remaining 20% are of type S (“silicaceous”). The former are found predominately in the middle and outer belt, while the latter are mostly in the inner belt, the part that lies closest to Mars. These two types are unlikely to have had the same parent body. Finally, it should be noted that we can estimate the total mass of the body that exploded to produce all the comets seen today. (The lifetime of those comets is limited to 10 million years by galactic tidal forces and planetary perturbations.) That parent body mass is almost certainly less than the size of our Moon, because the carbonaceous meteorites most closely associated with comets indicate a parent body that was too small to chemically differentiate. IS it made of Magnesium? By contrast, in the eph, space is filled with debris just after the explosion. Large fragments will find lots of debris inside their gravitational spheres of influence, and these will remain in stable orbits as permanent satellites of these larger fragments. For that reason, I presented papers at the International Astronomical Union meeting in Argentina in 1991, and the Flagstaff meeting of asteroid, comet, and meteorite experts in that same year, pointing out the eph prediction. Specifically, spacecraft visiting asteroids (or comets) should find at least one of the larger debris bodies (satellites) in orbit around the asteroid (or comet) primary nucleus. This prediction, also published in [iii] and [iv], was considered extremely unlikely by mainstream astronomers, one of whom made a public wager with me that it would not happen. The Galileo spacecraft flew by asteroid Ida in 1993, and returned images showing a 1-km satellite (now named Dactyl) in a stable orbit around its nucleus. Since that discovery, two telescopic discoveries of satellites of other asteroids have been made. [v] This supplements occultation and radar evidence of long standing suggesting asteroid satellites. IS it made of Magnesium? well most scenarios of concern are generated by threats of impact which destroyies most of our civilizations longstanding capability to execute agriculture and engineering projects by inflicting global and in some cases sever regional destruction.... ISON is most probably going to stay in its trajectory and the only orbital alteration scenarios are a "[ice] water to steam" event at or near perihelion .. and i am looking into paramagnetic [ induced magnetic] effects that might be a factor depending on the chemical composition of C2012 /s1 ISON .. which I cant confirm .. I am also looking for confirmation of the close up pictures of the Nucleus in two pieces with a out gassing jet are real .. if so then i have some cause for concern due to the possibility that ISON may be part of a larger explosion signature from a planet [or two ] that exploded in the inner solar system in the past.. ISON like Elenin should stay in its orbit . WIll it disintegrate when it gets closer to the sun? [ I think nov 20 it reaches mercury distance,, and nov 27 its perihelion will there be more objects and exactly what is it made of ? I don't know..
