Do they check that you show up in church or are you legit if you just pay the monthly bill and claim to be born again or whatever?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28862409

That's what i'm wondering. How could they possibly know all of that? I would assume it is honor system and about making your best attempts at a pure lifestyle. Just when you come up with a smoking related illness, fatty liver from drinking, or HIV from rando sex don't expect them to help you. They probably do check for membership in a church though.
 Quoting: Gator!

My understanding of these types of policies is that LOCAL christian groups may require you to meet with them, or be known to them if you belong to their group - meaning they will know if you are just joining it to avoid ACA, or if you are truly a practicing christian.

BTW - is this a CHRISTIAN thing (there ARE christian insurance policies, where everyone helps share the expenses for everyone else - explaining WHY they can't afford to cover those with pre-existing conditions), or a christian SCIENCE thing?

Two totally different species altogether.

The cheapest health insurance we could find was $162 / person / month with an $8000 / person/ year deductible*. With no guarantee of acceptance. 24% of applicants were denied this coverage.

*Deductible is the amount of money policy holder pays out of pocket before insurance coverage kicks in.

I will be more than happy to get right with God for $45 / person / month & $5000 / person/ year deductible

Re: A Christian Exemption To Obamacare Available! Healthcare Sharing Ministries
Christian Healthcare Ministries is a good plan.

We see several patients with this program.

I am not certain how it works with a major issues such as Heart Transplant or something of this nature, but I do know that Providers get paid and Patients seem happy who participate.

Often The Patients are getting reimbursed for dr. visits and send the bills in themselves to the insurer.

Hobe Sound Bible School staff and students utilize this plan. They are considered pretty strict in terms of orthodox beliefs beyond Baptist

Re: A Christian Exemption To Obamacare Available! Healthcare Sharing Ministries
I realize we are talking about a coverage plan, but I want to speak about the Christian Science part of this discussion. I saw that they are exempt from ObamaCare, which I want absolutely nothing to do with, so I looked into it a little. I actually am pretty into their philosophy about healing through prayer. I am Christian, and do think we under estimate some powers, and the under estimation itself makes these miracles not happen. Have you seen the studies wherein prayers or certain words can change the structure of water? Interesting stuff, everything is only wavelengths type stuff. Also, Christian Scientists can now receive medical treatment if they really want it. But, it all kind of fell apart for me when I read some info about their actual beliefs about Christ's actual status as God, and some hard to interpret ideas they have about the Trinity. I have beliefs about these things I am set in, and unwilling to rethink. Anybody here have a Christian perspective on Christian Scientists?

Qualifications for joining are simple. To be CHM members, participating adults must:

be Christians living by biblical principles
abstain from the use of tobacco and the illegal use of drugs (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
follow biblical teaching on the use of alcohol
attend group worship regularly if health permits (Hebrews 10:25)

I don't think I qualify.. chuckle

Believe it or not, I don't qualify either. How ironic.
 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

as a 'new' Christian, can someone please explain to me what exactly this means??

follow biblical teaching on the use of alcohol

does it mean NO alcohol, does it mean 1 glass of wine a night, does it mean a bender every month or so? Does it mean rubbing alcohol only (lol)? I am so confused regarding the alcohol question and Christianity, and kind of too ashamed to ask my new Pastor, "so, how much of a lush can I be?"

But whenever a church/Christian org. specifies "proper" understanding of alcohol, it almost always means total abstinence. The Bible doesn't teach that, but that's what some people believe.

Most of those who teach total abstinence mean well, but it's best to read the Bible on specific issues or find someone you trust who knows it well.

Anyway, you'd have to ask them what they mean by it.

Call these ministries what you want, but $45 a month beats the thousands Obamas going to forcefully remove if you decide you dont want any coverage. Think of it this way, at least as a christian you can take solace in knowing your contributions will be used to heal people, not perform abortions and pay for tranny operations like obamacare.

Thanks, but i'm fortunate to be ones that are not losing their coverage (as of yet) but i'm sure the day is coming where we all will be forced into this health care control ring. In which case i will remember this thread and go with the Christian Ministries healthcare. Good to know this is out there.hf

So AC, is this the way we get into Heaven? Cuss everyone out around us, and damn and judge everyone around us? Wow, that's new to me.

Jesus knows your heart! It's actually quite simple. You can go to church, tithe, never drink, never smoke, read the Bible all day long, but if you have anger and bitterness in your heart, there is no room for you in Heaven. It's what is in your heart that matters, and you can't fool Jesus, he knows what and who we are inside and out. Stop being so angry, that is not what Jesus is about. hf

Re: A Christian Exemption To Obamacare Available! Healthcare Sharing Ministries
so, Ive been thinking about this. I never go to the hospital, only time I go is if cut is deep enough or long enough for stitches....and you, yourself can tell. If you see bone, or its longer and 2.5 inches, yeah stiches. S
Other than that, if I get the flue or cold, or sore throat, I eat lots of chicken soup or beef stew and SLEEP a lot. Thats it. When you know your getting better is that fever feeling, then next day or two its over.
I figure if I exempt out try to avoid penalty, at worst pay it...then the only thing I have to worry about is catostrophic event, like car accident....ok
Car accident or similar event= majority of the time broken ribs from steering wheel, all most all the bones you break except for compound fractures , are splinted thats it, and some pain killers.
Soooo, I can friggin splint myself, and drink some alchohol.
hands, fingers, clavicle, ribs, legs , arms, etc. They only splint them anyways.
So the only thing I need to do , is make sure I know how to splint, get something for pain, and learn how to suture, and buy an old army suture kit off ebay.

And , if you know the one thing that you cannot get help from, catastrophic hospitalization, if you exempted, then start living life more careful, and healthy.

And COWBOY UP!!

sure there is a small percentage of people who should have insurance, those people get hit with legit ailments all the time. But in 50 years, I can count the times I went to hospital on one hand.

Suturing myself is gonna be hard at first, but everyone is getting piercing now, how hard can it be.

I could switch to vaping, did that for a year and it was easy. As far as the wine, I might have one or two glasses per year, i'm not a big drinker.

But, I'm definately not going to be forced to attend a church each week unless I actually wanted to, which I don't.

So, this isn't an option for me.

I hope it works well for others tho who choose to participate.
