I feel for you Jazzy! This week is gonna be awful. They're saying the humidity won't push outta here until Friday. We have an air quality alert today and a heat advisory starting tonight going into tomorrow night.

Aside from stepping out onto my porch to enjoy the neighborhood fireworks on the 4th, I plan to be inside with the air conditioner on.

Heat index of 110+?! Good God!

I haven't moved out from in front of my fan for 3 days now. We desperately need to get an ac but our house has the old knob/tube wiring and can't run a standard 110 type. There's a plug in the dining room for a 220 window unit but those kind are EXPENSIVE.

ugh

Woot woot! Talk about divine intervention! Hubby just got home and told me that his buddy has a friend who has a 220 ac for sale. They had it in their garage but installed central air and no longer need it. Guy said he would sell it to hubs buddy for $200 and he's gonna pick it up for us (both are in Ohio and we're in Indy). He wanted $400 from anybody else. He can't get it until this weekend but I don't care! One more week and then no more trying to live in an oven! Yehaw!!!!

What a way to ruin a holiday. UGH.

I have no problem admitting to, and embracing my inner wimp. I've actually thought maybe in a past life I lived somewhere godawful, like the desert, before air conditioning and that's why I was conditioned to hate the heat. I didn't even like summer as a kid.

Embrace your inner wimp and enjoy that A/C when it arrives! You two deserve it.

I noticed that deep Japan quake immediately. They had a deep one yesterday too, this one:

Magnitude 4.5
Region HOKKAIDO, JAPAN REGION
Date time 2018-07-01 02:21:59.8 UTC
Location 43.61 N ; 145.17 E
Depth 135 km

I can't help but worry when they have these deep ones that a larger quake is eventually going to happen. I'm forever fearful for Japan after the megaquake.

Overall there have been a lot of deep ones today! Fiji has had multiple, as was mentioned earlier.

I was born pre-1945. We had an outhouse,,,had to hand pump water, and a wood stove for heating and cooking. A few people may have had a radio, and folks would all gather at that house and listen to the war news,,,and the radio dramas / mysteries. Few people may have had a big old black car, they were always catching on fire.
We took a bath once a week, starting with adults in the tub, then the kids, all in the same water except for rinsing off.
We had no electric, until closer to 1950,,so there were no fans; we used hand fans on very hot days. The "ice man" would deliver a block of ice to put in the ice box, up on top and it would drain into a pan below,,,to keep the food cold...he would always give us kids a couple ice chips to chew on.
The only toy I had was a little tin Planters Peanut man about 3 inches high. We played with tree leaves and stones. We had a couple crayons. Toilet paper? The old Sears catalog.

Only had a couple items of clothes, and they were washed maybe every ten days. Used old men's socks for mittens.
Can you imagine,,,the changes I have seen in my life?????

I can see how those experiences shaped you into the knowledgeable, tough lady you are today! I am definitely spoiled with all the luxuries, no question. I do hate to hear you didn't have toilet paper or more than one toy, though. That made me a little sad Arnie! My grandma used to tell me about their outhouse, no A/C, etc. She was also a tough lady! I spent my summers with her when I was growing up (she lived in OH), and even that house didn't have A/C. Probably another reason I hate the heat! But what I do appreciate so much out of that experience is that, because there was no A/C, we spent a lot of evenings outside on her awesome front porch every summer playing games, reading and listening to the baseball game on the radio. And it was a neighborhood of old homes, so some others didn't have A/C either and people would just hang out outside, which was rather nice. Newer homes anymore don't even have much of a front porch, they have a back porch because it's more private. But I love a good front porch, I really think back in the day those front porches brought people and neighborhoods together a bit more.
