Next day off .... the 17th of August.

:angryhomer:

I've seriously been having dreams about setting up peoples phones and finding missing email passwords, to wake up and actually have to go do it. lol

Dang MoN, I feel for you. I don't get why employers don't understand this leads to burnout so quickly. You have to treat people better than that if you want to keep them. They haven't figured that out yet either, it appears.

Do what you can to take care of yourself in your off time. Wish I had more advice than that.

Testimonies thus far from the Cali quake.

[link to www.emsc-csem.org (secure)]

Some samples:

"Very quick, but powerful jolt. Felt by all of those around me."

"It sounded like something dropped on our roof twice"

"it felt like a wave passed through me. quite startling"

"It sounded like something dropped on our roof twice"

"Just one sharp jolt. Heard something right before but not sounds described above. More of a whooshing instead of a roaring. "

Sure was a noisy quake for a 3.7. I hope to heaven this isn't a foreshock.

I hear ya, it's a real catch 22. Your job sucks you so dry you can't muster up the energy to find a new one.

Fuck the district manager!

I filtered through this quickly and focused mostly on the U.S. (sorry, egocentric of me). Assuming most don't have the time to go through it, here are some highlights (this video was made last night and covers the upcoming week):

-Expect a 5.5 in southern Mexico
-Expect a 5.4 in Nicaragua
-There has been significant increase in activity on the W. Coast, yet little to nothing in the midwest. Pressure is building up. Therefore, expect bigger land movement this week
-Called for a upper 4 to 5.0 in the San Fran area (and his cursor went almost right to where the 3.6 hit earlier)
-As we see more movement on the northern W. Coast, look for a 4.3-4.5 in Southern Cali.
-He noted a lack of quakes NW of Vancouver area, considering all the other activity off the W. Coast and Alaska
-Once we see the additional expected movement in Cali, it will gravitate to the midwest. He expects a 4.7-5.0 in Oklahoma

Thanks for the synopsis KI! His videos can take a while to get through.

I know! I've never listened through a whole video of his, unless it's a random shorter one. I usually look at the comments to see what time spots to go to for certain areas. Then I fast forward through those to the the pertinent info. For god's sake, we don't need to see every dang set of coordinates pulled up! We don't need a zoom in of the fracking operations!

Point being, there's no reason a bunch of us need to suffer through all that just to get to the crux. One of us is plenty. If it's me, then I will share what I find out.

Solar Flares Disrupted Radio Communications During 2017 Atlantic Hurricanes

An unlucky coincidence of space and Earth weather in early September 2017 caused radio blackouts for hours during critical hurricane emergency response efforts, according to a new study in Space Weather, a journal of the American Geophysical Union. The new research, which details how the events on the Sun and Earth unfolded side-by-side, could aid in the development of space weather forecasting and response, according to the study's authors.

Swift Observatory: Scanning the Sky for Gamma-ray Bursts

The Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (previously called the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer) is a long-running space telescope that searches for gamma-ray bursts, which are huge explosions in the universe that happen about once a day. Researchers use Swift and other facilities to probe these bursts, to learn more about their origins.

Swift launched on Nov. 20, 2004, on a Delta II rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station near Orlando, Fla. Originally planned for a two-year mission, it remains in good health as of mid-2018. In January 2018, NASA renamed Swift after its first principal investigator, Neil Gehrels, who died the previous year.
