Dinner is done and we are all chilling. Dang it was hard. Hubby couldn't even do his usual "what am I thankful for", because this is the first holiday since his father died back in August. Of course that choked me up and I cried during the blessing knowing, that he couldn't even talk at that point. Soon everyone was all choked up. Sheesh!!!! |

Everything was perfect...until we walked back to the car. I was holding onto my mom's shoulder for support because of the wind (yes, it HAD to be fucking WINDY today).
She just kept going and I let out a little girl scream as my support ran away to her car, and I yelled for her to stop and come back and help, and she wouldn't. Of course, other people had to be in hearing/seeing distance and that made it worse.
I apologized and "sorry won't cut it!!!! You'd BETTER FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG NOW."
Ok...how the hell can I figure out why I did that when I don't even know why? There's no reason why I should have. I was walking OK for walking in the wind, but it still skyrockets my anxiety to an all-time high. What's even worse is the feeling that my support was going away and I had nothing else to hold onto (I'm not allowed to use my cane in public).
Yes. I'm an embarrassment. I can't handle the wind. I'm sorry. Let's just get over it?
Sigh. One day, maybe I'll be over this thing and good days will happen again.
What's even worse is how the universe tricked me. It was perfectly calm and still when we left and went TO dinner. It couldn't stay that way or at least give me notice to take my cane? But then again, I'm not allowed to use my cane within the vicinity when we're out.
So much for this fucking holiday. |

Quoting: CuriousSeeker Calm deep breaths and then explain to my WHY the wind bothers you and why you still need support? Is it your mom that triggers this or something else? Quoting: WhiteAngel I'm fine now. Anyway. The wind makes me feel like I'm going to fall and that causes my knees to shake and once they start shaking it's an avalanche and I can't stop it until I get to a support thing (a hard surface - anything like a pole or something to touch with my hands). Then once I touch something with my hands, I can take a few deep breaths and recover. It doesn't have to be a full weight on my knees-type touch. A feather touch works. Like touching a walker or my cane. The trigger for this was her pulling away, and walking fast and not coming back, letting me gain composure I think. If she had waited a couple seconds to let me know what was going to happen, I probably would have been OK. No, putting my hands in my pockets doesn't work. EDIT: My biggest fear, my absolute OH-MY-GOD-IF-THIS-HAPPENS-IT'S-ALL-OVER fear is falling again after my injury. Any sensation big or small that leans in that direction - of any type of falling - could be a trigger. I know I have regained a lot of my former strength. But anything like that in even the tiniest iota will cause an avalanche of anxiety that I can't stop. Until I get to a support object for just a couple seconds. |

Quoting: CuriousSeeker Okay. Find something like this [ link to www.ebay.com (secure)] that you can carry in your pocket and pop out when the need arises. My aunt was like you are. She had to touch something, when even going down one step. She fell down a full flight once and after that, even just a "feather" touch like you described would let her calmly walk down the step or stairs. She got something like above and no longer had the issue. Something you said made me think of her. I hope this will help you out. You have been through hell just because you were doing something you loved doing and that joy was taken away. Life can be a massive bitch sometimes, but little things do help. I am sure that your mom loves you, is very proud of you as well and does her very best to get you through this time as well. Sometimes, for whatever reason, emotion gets the better of even the strongest and closest people. I know, that might cause anxiety, embarrassment or whatever feeling, but oh well, a few minutes later it is in the past. So forget and forgive and move forward, like you did so far...
