Mysterious boom heard in four Kentucky counties

Posted: Wed 3:46 PM, Jan 23, 2019
Updated: Wed 7:26 PM, Jan 23, 2019

Devonna Hisel lives in the northern part of the county, she says the mysterious boom shook the foundation of her house and scared a few of her neighbors. "We've had it shake the house before but not this much...."

From a transformer blowing to blasting at the rock quarry, a sonic boom, and even fracking, none of these are plausible and offer no possible insight as to why the boom happened. Many others reported the loud boom in parts of Madison, Estill, and Rockcastle counties as well.

Lunar light pillar over Antarctica

We see a fair number of photos of light pillars – shafts of light extending from the sun or other bright light source – taken from northerly latitudes. This one is caused by the moon, and it’s over Earth’s South Pole.

The counterclockwise swirl high above the Arctic known as the Polar Vortex will wobble south next week, over the Great Lakes. This will deliver the coldest air of the season to most of the central and eastern United States. Get ready for the deep freeze, folks.

F*ck! I really wish I could afford to miss work during that. It is SO cold in there when it's freezing outside. This past Monday was awful. My fingers were so cold and painful. The thermostat for my area of the offices is broken currently. Just one more thing to add to my misery of that place.

Speaking of which, I have decided to actively pursue a different job. It's gonna be tricky. It's been made clear to me that I won't get employed by anyone in our industry if I leave. So I have to look beyond what I am qualified for specifically, which may screw up the advantage I have of long-term employment with the same company for 14+ years. This has really been my only 'real' job. My start date was in 2004. I graduated high school in 2000. Didn't go to college right after high school (and kick myself in the ass for that every single day because that piece of stupid paper means more than your actual qualifications). Ended up pregnant with my daughter in the beginning of 2002. Had been dating her father for 5 years at the time. She was born in November of 2002. I began working where I currently work today in 2004. I also had some oddball jobs between 2000 and 2002 (bank customer service and waitressing).

The positive I can pull out of my current job is the length of time that I have been there, as well as the MANY hats I have had to wear over those years. Shit, I have legitimate years of experience (over a decade) in everything from basic customer service to IT (I literally am the company's IT person) to event planning to floor plan design to invoicing, etc. Key accounts liaison & manager is my 'job title'.

Come to find out, after a bit of research, I am being fucked every single which way possible. The salary range for an account manager (which is even less than a KEY account manager) is $93,310 to $122,637. Trust and believe I do NOT make anything close to those figures and SHOULD! I solely manage ALL of the key accounts for my company. I am disgusted.

I'm just plain ol' fed the fuck up.

Life is just way too overwhelming lately and my defense mechanisms aren't pretty. : (

Sometimes I need my Irish to step in.

Sorry for the rant that ran rampantly off-topic.

Last work-related rant (for tonight anyway lol)...

Boss has decided to dump an additional account on me this year. This one additional account holds over 100 individual accounts within it.

On top of my already 550+ individual accounts per year.

After me, the next person's highest account number to deal with is 200-ish. Like 190+ but less than 200.

Next person after that is about 100. And the decline continues from there.

And this asshole expects me to just accept this, and without a pay increase.

I am DONE!

I don't blame you.

I had to take today off. Several people at work on my team have called in sick this week and I took the opportunity to well, say I was sick also. I just slept all day and am just now kind of getting going. All that sleep was nice.

I've been delegated to the most mindless tasks at work - and this task ONLY. And there will be no effect. It requires a ton of repetition and is something you assign interns. Not senior level people. It won't help our current situation and I'm between a rock and hard place on this politically-speaking. Ugh. So saying it's not going to work is kind of a hot-water thing. I've brought up everything that is or could be an issue in the past.

They would not listen to me at critical points in the past during the campaign, took three months to implement past recommendations (way beyond the point that it would have helped), and have basically gotten themselves in this situation. My past recommendations would have helped get all of us out of this mess but because of a few political egos who think they know more than an expert in the industry, I'm overruled on most of them.

It could have been so simple. Just listen to ME, dammit. That's why you hired me, is it not?

I so completely understand your frustrations my friend. It's fucking crazy out there.

It's a cut-throat business industry out there.

What burns my ass is knowing that the company would likely flop if I quit tomorrow, and the pay is pathetic, yet he won't compensate me for the amount of work that I do. And I do it at a sub-human, incredible pace. This isn't tooting my own horn...it's simply fact.

And I am simply fed up to a level of action finally. I've dragged my feet long enough in regards to my escape plan. No more. Escape plan is now a higher priority than satisfying these unappreciative fucks.
