I guess President Trump could use a wall like that. I will send him a tweet. Quoting: InterMezzo Thank you for your wall of text. I love how much you know me. : ) Yeah I'm at point where I have to do something or I'm never gonna get out of the financial rut that I got into during those couple of years when I was really sick. I work way too damn hard to be this stressed out about paying my bills. That's crazy. And yes, I have to watch my health so that I don't get as bad as I once was. And that's a real possibility with these newly added 100+ files. I know what this will do to me come summertime when we're insanely busy. I need a solution before that happens, so it's crunch time. It's difficult to find the time to do what I need to do though because I'm always busy at work and at home. So like I said last night, it's gonna be tricky (for more reasons than one really). But I'm taking action to make this happen finally. And I've endured this shit long enough that I can handle taking some time to do this properly and without making my situation any worse. Securing a new job before leaving this one, and making sure it's really a job that I want. Or at least pays me enough that I don't care whether or not I want it lol. It's a process. One that I officially have the ball rolling on. I have until May/June to try to make something happen. Once those months arrive, I won't have a single second to do anything but work until pretty much January of 2020. I used to think I wouldn't be able to find a job making what I make now. Come to find out, I am being substantially underpaid. I mean, I knew I was being underpaid considering my work load, but I didn't know the average salary currently for an account manager. And this is eating me alive right now and for every second since I researched it yesterday. I'm pissed off Mezzo. Irish-style pissed off. Which is good, because it's putting a fire under my ass. Love you and thank you again. I really appreciated your post. :s27heart7: Last Edited by Simple27 on 01/25/2019 09:34 PM~*Ride the Wave*~ |

I haven't see the responses to this yet since I'm catching up, so this may have been said. But I don't think you should count out a job in your industry. Isn't it because of something your boss said to you once that leads you to believe you won't get a job elsewhere? Wasn't that his threat (might be as strong word) when he thought you were going to look elsewhere? I don't believe that he's blackballed you from the industry there I think that's all talk, plus it's a huge city. It's just impossible for him to keep you from going to a similar job. And there is nothing wrong with telling a prospective employer that they can call to verify employment ONLY in the case of an offer. And use coworkers other than your boss if you worry what he'll say out of anger you might be leaving. In your case, I would also use a customer/client you've built a relationship with that could vouch for your work.
Don't sell yourself short on any account. You are a hard worker and good at your job. I used to work in a similar industry before I changed careers, and I can only imagine the venues in the Boston area who would love to have someone like you. And don't worry about the non-degree, most places won't require it and many still value experience over anything else. If you do opt to look at something different, I think you would easily qualify for a good office manager-type position, where they want someone who can wear many hats and juggle lots of projects. Some of those jobs pay well if you find the right, decent place. You would also make a great executive assistant, and believe it or not, sometimes those jobs pay bank if you get somewhere corporate.
I don't blame you for being frustrated. If nothing else, just start browsing jobs on indeed.com and get a feel for what's out there, what the pay is like, what qualifications they are looking for, etc.
Quoting: KickinIt Yes, that is exactly what he did. He told me that he would make sure none of our partners, affiliates or vendors would hire me if I quit on him. And that's a huge deal because we're affiliated or partners with basically everyone on the north shore in the industry. But what I'm realizing, I guess an epiphany of sorts lol, is that what I've personally been doing for the company for the last several years has been strictly account management. I went from a client relations associate to the client relations manager & office manager to the key accounts liaison & manager (naturally without corresponding pay raises). Basically I don't need our industry at all. It would have been extremely helpful to have that option if I quit and would be a guaranteed hire because any one of our affiliates would be happy to have me on their team because they know my work ethic. I've even been asked to leave my company to go work for one of our partners years ago. In hindsight I wish I had acted then, but at that time I wasn't even considering quitting my job. Now it's too late and no one will threaten their relationship with the company I work for to hire me if he tells them he won't work with them anymore if they do. My boss can easily replace his partnerships and affiliates with equal or potentially better ones (everyone in the industry who isn't a competitor with us, wants in with us). Our partners and affiliates cannot replace my company with anything close to what my company does as a whole. We have lots of loyal employees who go above and beyond their pay (although the number of us is decreasing due to the abuse). We have far more employees who are dumb as fuck and don't contribute a damn thing to the future of the company, but the rate of which this company grows and expands is insane and they have to have some dumb dumbs to do the most basic of job positions. Brainless positions, hence me calling them dumb dumbs. No intelligence required type positions. Whoops, rant off! Anyway, I'm going to pursue new potential careers based on my job title, not the industry I work for. The blinders have been lifted finally. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Quoting: bigD111 It's really not. And so many hard-working folks get absolutely screwed over. MoN's situation is yet another example. As you said bigD, it's not right! Quoting: Simple27 It is definitely infuriating. "The rich get richer", as they say, and I'm not just talking monetarily. I've worked with people who didn't show up to work regularly (at least 1x a week, typically more) and still kept a job. And these were professional, salaried, career positions. It's fucking bullshit! This one guy wouldn't show up for DAYS at a time, and somehow got away with it! Sometimes he wouldn't even call in to tell us, and once our boss was worried enough he had the cops sent to his house for a wellness check! He was fine, of course, just couldn't be bothered to call. Selfish, fake-sick, bastard! Quoting: KickinIt Ugh, I've witnessed the same at my job. The only good thing about my job is the job security. It's REALLY hard to get fired from this company once you've been there for a while (a year or so). The amount of fuck ups they allow in every area of employment is nuts. Yet the loyal, dedicated employees get shit on. *inserts your smilie of the little dude blowing his gaskets* ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
