Google Declares Smartphones Could Be At Center Of Connected-Device Universe

At its Google I/O conference on Wednesday, the tech giant showcased the latest version of its Android operating system and essentially declared that smartphones – powered by Android of course – would be at the center of its connected-device universe. This could provide connectivity with cars, fitness devices and even provide streaming video and game apps that would display via Android TV.

Sundar Pichai, the head of Google’s Android division, kicked things off at the 2014 conference, noting Android currently has more than one billion users worldwide – while Android app installs rose 236 percent last year. Android also now has 62 percent of the global market share of tablets. Pichai unveiled “L” – also known as “Android 5.0,” the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system and the one that could bring all these devices together.

Well, just got home from the emergency room.

This morning I noticed my vision was not so great, but it wasn't terrible. You know how you usually have poor vision when you wake up, but after rubbing your eyes everything pops back to normal? That didn't happen this morning.

In fact, it got progressively worse. As I was sitting at my computer at work today, I couldn't even read the text. WITH glasses. It was that bad. I had to squint and get close to the monitor (less than half an inch away) to read the text.

As it got closer to noon time it was progressively worse. I had double vision that I couldn't get rid of. Usually I can squint a bit with just a tiny teensy eensy bit of effort to get rid of it. Now it required a lot. And when I closed my eyes enough to get rid of it they weren't open enough to see.

In the emergency room my blood pressure was 156 / 80 when I first arrived. A couple hours later 139 / 80. So, nothing too SUPER huge to worry about there. Just nerves and stress due to this week. The doc said nothing's wrong with my brain, but I should see an ophthalmologist to get things checked out, just in case. I agreed.

Just got home from the emergency room about 5 minutes ago. Oy. My vision has significantly improved (almost back to normal) but my eyes are swelled up. Weird. I have an eye infection due to the illness I just had.

And this just HAS to happen when I'm handed a supremely awesome project to work on at work. I certainly hope they don't think I can't handle it because of this. :(

I don't think I can deal with anymore bad luck setbacks in my career.

Sorry to hear this, CS. That's pretty scary! I'm glad it's beginning to improve now. hugs

And I'm sure your job will understand since you went to the ER. Did you happen to get a note? Even if you didn't, I highly doubt they would think you couldn't handle it knowing you were having this issue today on the job.

Hopefully it keeps improving and you'll be able to see well in the morning. Definitely let us know how you're doing when you get up tomorrow for work (if you have time).

A pleasant evening to you Simple27- Everyone :).

These shakers- noticing they're almost all only around 3 miles deep.
Not sure what to make of that. Thoughts?

hi Hiya 5&9!! A pleasant evening to you as well.

Many would say that it is because the quakes were caused by fracking, and that is probably the case here since some of the quakes were back to back and at the same exact magnitude and depth.

Any other thoughts from others are more than welcomed hf
