Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354
Well, just got home from the emergency room.

This morning I noticed my vision was not so great, but it wasn't terrible. You know how you usually have poor vision when you wake up, but after rubbing your eyes everything pops back to normal? That didn't happen this morning.

In fact, it got progressively worse. As I was sitting at my computer at work today, I couldn't even read the text. WITH glasses. It was that bad. I had to squint and get close to the monitor (less than half an inch away) to read the text.

As it got closer to noon time it was progressively worse. I had double vision that I couldn't get rid of. Usually I can squint a bit with just a tiny teensy eensy bit of effort to get rid of it. Now it required a lot. And when I closed my eyes enough to get rid of it they weren't open enough to see.

In the emergency room my blood pressure was 156 / 80 when I first arrived. A couple hours later 139 / 80. So, nothing too SUPER huge to worry about there. Just nerves and stress due to this week. The doc said nothing's wrong with my brain, but I should see an ophthalmologist to get things checked out, just in case. I agreed.

Just got home from the emergency room about 5 minutes ago. Oy. My vision has significantly improved (almost back to normal) but my eyes are swelled up. Weird. I have an eye infection due to the illness I just had.

And this just HAS to happen when I'm handed a supremely awesome project to work on at work. I certainly hope they don't think I can't handle it because of this. :(

I don't think I can deal with anymore bad luck setbacks in my career.

There is another thought on this that I should have said also, and that is it is part of the North American Craton. Post glacial rebound effect would be causing the NAC to lift on the bottom end.

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354
hi

Heavy rainfall overnight in Interior Alaska's Denali National Park and Preserve flooded a backcountry lodge and left more than 100 park guests and employees stranded beyond Wonder Lake on the Denali Park Road on Thursday. The Denali Backcountry Lodge, at the western end of the park road near mile 92, flooded early Thursday morning, forcing the lodge to evacuate its guests and employees, said Kris Fister, spokesperson for Denali National Park. A total of 103 guests and lodge staff were placed on the lodge's buses and taken to higher ground, where they remained on Thursday afternoon. They had adequate food, water and shelter, and no injuries had been reported Thursday, Fister said. In addition, about a dozen park employees were stuck past Wonder Lake, Fister said. Those employees were taking shelter in park cabins, she said, and were all safe and accounted for. The nearby Kantishna airstrip was also partially flooded Thursday, Fister said, so airplanes were unable to land to evacuate those stranded. The road beyond Wonder Lake, starting at mile 85, was flooded over in three places Thursday, Fister said. Both Eureka Creek and Friday Creek -- which usually "run across the road at very low levels," she said -- were flowing over at high levels and bringing "significant debris" over the road, Fister said. In addition, a culvert running into Wonder Lake had overflowed, Fister said.

The park closed the road beyond Wonder Lake around 4:30 a.m. Around 8:45 a.m., the park closed the road at Eielson, mile 66, as rain was causing "significant rockfall" in the area, according to a press release sent out by Fister on Thursday afternoon. On Thursday afternoon, road crews were working to clear and repair the road, Fister said. Meanwhile, the park was gearing up to evacuate people by helicopter, Fister wrote in an email. Four "stranded, hungry climbers" on the south side of the McKinley River, notoriously difficult to cross even without the rain, would be picked up first and dropped at Eielson Visitor Center, Fister wrote. After that, a Denali Backcountry Lodge employee who was stranded on "what is now an island near the lodge" would be picked up, she wrote, followed by the stranded lodge guests. No other lodges in the area had yet to evacuate, she said. Campers at the Wonder Lake Campground were given the option of leaving on a single bus on Thursday afternoon, but some chose to remain, according the release. That campground was on higher ground and was not in danger of flooding, she said. The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Denali National Park on Thursday morning, stating that 1.5 to 3 inches of rain had fallen overnight, causing small streams and creeks to rise and flood in some areas. On Thursday afternoon, the rain had stopped, Fister said.

HAZMAT in USA on Friday, 27 June, 2014 at 03:07 (03:07 AM) UTC.
Description
Roughly 600 Martin County residents were evacuated from their homes after a gas leak at a facility in northern Palm Beach County, said Martin County Sheriff's Office officials. The gas leak prompted evacuations in northern Palm Beach County and parts of Martin County. Peter Allen of Tequesta Fire Rescue said a 30,000 gallon LP tank leaked near railroad tracks at 950 Old Dixie Highway in Tequesta. First responders used foam to try and contain the leak. Drivers are urged to avoid the area. Fire rescue has asked the Florida East Coast Railway to stop any trains until the situation is resolved. Law enforcement officials are evacuating people within a mile of the tank as a precaution, but that evacuation zone may be expanded. Martin County evacuees were brought to St. Jude Church. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is assisting Tequesta Fire Rescue.
