hi morning :)

Volcano Activity in Peru on Thursday, 19 June, 2014 at 03:24 (03:24 AM) UTC.
Description
Geological authorities are reporting that the Sabancaya volcano in southern Peru has become active after 15 years of silence. According to information released by the Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP), Sabancaya has erupted several times. The first recorded activity at Sabancaya was in 1750, and the volcano became active again in 1784. 200 years later, in 1986, the volcano once again displayed activity. Now, the volcano is once again active, having gradually intensified since late February. Speaking to El Comercio, IGP investigator Orlando Macedo said "All this activity is part of an expected process. Before the eruption, tremors were occurring closer and closer to the volcano and the crater. However, the process is taking longer than that which we saw at the Ubinas Volcano, when everything happened in a matter of days. In the case of Sabancaya, this could go on for several months." In addition to seismic activity, Sabancaya has also emitted plumes of smoke. No thermic anomalies have been observed by the IGP. According to the IGP, three seismic monitoring stations are keeping watch over activity at Sabancaya. Sabancaya, located in the southern region of Arequipa, is part of a volcanic complex that includes Hualca-Hualca and Ampato.

Arthur May Bear Down on North Carolina as a Hurricane

Tropical Storm Arthur has formed east of Florida Tuesday morning with further strengthening likely as the system turns northward this week while hugging the East coast.

The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center projects the system could also become the season’s first hurricane during the week of Independence Day as millions of people head to the beach for vacation.

Biological Hazard in Saint Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, 01 July, 2014 at 15:47 (03:47 PM) UTC.
Description
The number is in the hundreds, in terms of cases of Chikungunya in St Kitts and Nevis, according to Chief Medical Officer, Patrick Martin. "We're up to about thirty confirmed cases up to about a week ago, but there are more suspect cases, or cases that are clinically confirmed," Dr. Martin said Monday, in giving an update on the situation in the Federation. "We don't have to do blood tests on everybody. Blood tests are being reserved now for persons who may have a presentation that is unusual or unexpected. If a person heaven forbid, requires intensive care, well then you test. But ordinarily right now we're not testing everybody anymore...just like throughout the Caribbean, the number is in the hundreds basically," Dr. Martin said. Close to twenty countries in the region have been affected by the mosquito-borne disease. Some of those affected by Chikungunya describe it as a very painful experience. One person told WINN FM that she experienced severe joint pain, could not move her hands or legs, and could not even pick up her phone to answer it. The CMO says he expects Chikungunya to be around for a while yet. "More and more persons have been experiencing Chikungunya. We expect this to continue for several more months before it starts to level off, because it's a new disease and it really has to go through the population." According to the hemispheric health agencies, the number of suspected Chikungunya cases in the Americas rose to more than 185,000 by June 20.

Here's Why Tequila Is Feeling the Heat of Climate Change
Longer, hotter summers are making problems for the agave Mexico's signature spirit is made from.

Like the shifting climate that’s making historically cool wine grape–growing regions too hot for the varieties that have thrived there, like the drought conditions that are making it difficult to grow the malting barley your beer is made from, tequila made in Tequila from Agave tequilana could become a thing of the past.
