As I was walking in I heard a woman yell to me from her car. I walked over and found an elderly woman and her husband. She cracked her window open a bit more, and explained to me nearly in tears that they are afraid to go in the store. Afraid to get sick as they are in their 80’s and hear that the novel coronavirus is affecting older people disproportionately. And that they don’t have family around to help them out. Through the crack in the window she handed me a $100 bill and a grocery list, and asked if I would be willing to buy her groceries. I bought the groceries and placed them in her trunk, and gave her back the change. She told me she had been sitting in the car for nearly 45 min before I had arrived, waiting to ask the right person for help. I know it’s a time of hysteria and nerves, but offer to help anyone you can. Not everyone has people to turn to. [ link to twitter.com (secure)] Quoting: joinca Thank you for sharing this... We need to remember that these are not just statistics, these are real people. True story - Daughter went to the dollar store today. Found 2 bottles of a cleaner she wanted to get. Last 2 on the shelf. Put them in her basket. A couple of rows over, a lady asked her where those clealers were because she needed some as well. Daughter told her those were the last 2, and gave her one. Made me really proud - she remembered her raising. TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch |

Can you work from home?
Quoting: WhiteAngel I'm hoping so. I'm sending an email to my boss tonight. There is NO reason why I shouldn't be allowed to work from home as my specific job/responsibilities can be done fully from anywhere. I didn't go in today and I'm not going in tomorrow. Regardless of pay. But it does need to be addressed. Waiting on the robo-call from Mini's school for more information. All I know is that her school cancelled tomorrow. LOTS of schools in MA have just announced closures of 2 weeks. The city Mini's boyfriend lives in just cancelled ALL public schools (11 schools) for the next SIX WEEKS. Longest closure I've heard so far for public grade school in MA. Her boyfriend has a little sister who goes to public school. I told Mini her boyfriend is banned from the house. She's pissed, but oh well!
Quoting: Simple27 Whoa! Massive ramifications for young people who are gonna be bored bored bored. They better be handing out birth control like there's no tomorrow! Glad yours' in under supervision. Not a hallway, but a small little area before you open an additional door to come inside. I'm thinking that little area could be used for removing shoes, coats, hats, whatever. Wipe down the hands with some wet wipes and proceed into the house to actually wash hands. I can then go back into where the shoes and coats are and spray them with Lysol. That is, until I fully implement having no one here at all. Which is only gonna be days from now. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
