Just in: A U.S. Navy sailor assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer tested “presumptive positive” for #COVID19 on Friday, marking the 1st case for a sailor aboard a Navy ship. Individual is currently quarantined at home in accordance with CDC guidelines, per Navy.

I think it means he was tested positive but the test still has to be confirmed by CDC. That's what it means in MA.

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354
Good Sunday evening everyone! Just an update for all -

Went to Albertson's grocery store Friday - it was packed. People were very calm, and most were avoiding looking at others. Almost all had very full baskets, but some only had cases of water. One lady stopped close to me at one point, and loudly commented what craziness it all was. She then just asked - to no one in particular - what on earth was going on. I told her quietly and calmly that I guessed people were trying to stock up because of the virus. She made a funny noise, and I said, well the President is having a news conference shortly and is expected to announce a national emergency. She kind of snorted and said, I sisncerely doubt it's that. And I quietly said, I most certainly hope you're right! She walked off carrying one of those little hand baskets with 3 or 4 things in it. I later passed her in the store, she was pushng a regular basket and had it half full. She kind of smiled and ducked her head - I just smiled and nodded at her.

The store shelves were pretty empty at most stores here by Friday night, so I heard. Don't know if they were able to re-stock yesterday and today. Our Walmarts were 24 hr. stores, and will now be open during daytime only.

The local Sam's was the scene of stabbings last night. A 19 yr old male stabbed one adult and 2 children, then stabbed a Sam's employee who tried to stop him. By the time the police arrived an off-duty border patrol agent had subdued the assailant. No word yet on why, but my guess is a domestic dispute.

Then the local school district announced no school for 2 more weeks - students just had their week of spring break. We don't have any confirmed cases anywhere close to us, but heard that students from a private school were tested in Dallas when they returned from trip to Spain and were positive. Can't find any corroborating info, tho.

We are stocked up and ready to self-isolate. Local family knows to come here if things get hinky in town. I have lots of chickens (so will be getting over 3 dz. eggs/day in a few months), and will be planting a large garden. And we're prepared as much as possible for anyone looking to loot or steal.

Sorry for the wall of text. Wanted to share my info, and to tell you that I love all of you. I consider all of you like sisters and brothers, and pray that all of you stay safe and healthy. I'll be on here as long as the Lord allows, and hope that all of you are as well. As IM says, we will all get through this!!!
 Quoting: justanothergranny

Thank you so much for sharing this Granny. I am at least relieved that you and your family are as prepared and positive minded as you can in this situation. It is what we all need to stay out of the darkness of this. And that's for sure not easy at all.

And yes, we will get through this, one way or the other. Love you very much! hugs

Our general manager sent out an email to the office staff saying that we are to work from home for the next 2 weeks. She also said that she is under quarantine for the next 2 weeks but didn't say why. That's just awesome. Wtf.
 Quoting: Simple27

Hope we start getting some info tomorrow about how we’re all supposed to manage financially. Service staff, self-employed with no customers....how are the bills supposed to get paid. I’m hoping for a jubilee and a reset and a revaluation off the gold standard. Call me crazy!!
 Quoting: Isis One

In my opinion governments should mandatory order the private and public sector to postpone all life threatening bills like rent, mortgage, tax and energy if people can not afford it anymore. It should be part of the bail out plan to protect their people.

Of course this is going to cost many, many trillions and the question is if we ever get out of that economic crisis, but they need to choose for lives instead of livelihood.

Except the ones who released this virus, no one can be blamed for the effects it has on our society and personal lives. So it would be inhumane to punish them for it.

And yes, I know I am naive. hf

In the simulation Event 201, about 6 weeks in, they predicted GDP to shrink about 11% in the first year and 22% in two years. I think we are well on our way with that.

 Quoting: Luisport

Luis, just to put this in the right context. This the percentage compared to the closed cases (cases that had an outcome.)

Out of 85K closed cases 92% (78K) recovered / discharged and 8% (6.7K) passed away.

Average fatality rate of total no. of cases (173K) is around 3.8% (6.7K), even though of course in some countries (Italy (7.3%), Iran (5.7%) and most likely China) is much higher than other countries.

This doesn't make it less worse, but just to be a bit more accurate.

To add:

People wonder why the fatality rates in countries like Italy and Iran are higher than currently in a lot of other countries. That might have to to do with the fact that in those countries families often are living close or together through generations. So grandparents often live with their children and their children, where as in a lot of other Western countries the elderly live in their own home or in nursing homes, so more distance, less interaction and thus a slighter less chance of infections / fatalities.

I recall from my military time in Lebanon (way back in the previous century), that people there built extra floors on their homes for their parents and grandparents. hf

This week, in #Yellowstone #CalderaChronicles, we welcome guest writer John Ayers, from Vanderbilt University, who shares their work on gases that might be precursors to geyser eruptions!

They found some very neat results related to Steamboat...
