What in the fuckery is going on with all these deletes?

I can see *maybe* if they were smaller and blasts or a mistake...

Dutch was saying on yesterdays update that the location 0.00 usually happens if it is a mistake...

but 5 mistakes?

I had never heard that about the 0.00 location, but I find it hard to believe every one of these Gabon quakes was a mistake. One quake I would buy that theory, but 5? And why did the first few stay posted so long before they were scrubbed? The whole thing is weird. I can't find a lot on twitter as far as any personal testimonies who felt it. I don't know much about Gabon, but I'm thinking those folks are not big on the twitter scene so the lack of testimonies might be irrelevant.

On a related note, do you or anyone else here remember the few random times a huge megaquake showed up in Africa on globalincidentmap? It would only show up on that site, and someone would always come post it here, or start their own thread about it, and it was always a mistake and eventually scrubbed. But what made it weird was that it happened more than once over the course of a couple of years, the quake was always a 9-pointer, and it was always in the same spot in Africa. I remember the visual of the map and the large dot was on the west side, close to the coast but epicenter on land. Thinking about it now, I believe it was in the vicinity of Gabon.

Thanks! I couldn't remember who had screenshots of that. It's close to Gabon, but not quite where the deleted quakes were located.

I guess we have to chalk it up to a glitch, but it's hard to see how the same mistake can happen multiple times in the course of 24-48 hours. And all different magnitudes, too. Plus there have been 3 other recent quakes in South Africa as well which is an odd coincidence.

Also, my visual memory is obviously a bit off, that fake quake was clearly not on land!

I'm pretty sure some of the other past glitches on globalincidents were on land, so you did remember correctly.

I totally agree about these Gabon earthquakes. Very weird.

I've definitely done more googling on Gabon than I ever thought I would. There is a (likely) extinct volcano located on a small island right about where that big dot was in your screenshot. There are also two (not very) active ones just to the north of Gabon, offshore Equitorial Guinea. So none of those are probably a factor.

I guess it's the link. I've shared news from the same source many times here. Annoying. Below is the info without the link. *rolls eyes*

Officials: First bald eagle nest discovered on Cape Cod in 115 years

BARNSTABLE, MASS. (WHDH) - The first bald eagle nest with eggs was recently spotted on Cape Cod in more than 100 years, in addition to eight other new nests that were documented across the Bay State, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife announced Wednesday.

“MassWildlife has seen a dramatic uptick in newly documented eagle nests this year and has confirmed nine new nests in Fitchburg, Wenham, Concord, Rutland, Wareham, Medford, Northampton, Hudson, and Barnstable,” state officials said in a news release.

The Barnstable nest marks the first nest seen on Cape Cod in 115 years. That last one was documented in Sandwich in 1905.

There have been over 70 active eagle nests documented in Massachusetts this spring.

NOCTILUCENT CLOUDS ARE INTENSIFYING: On May 17th, NASA's AIM spacecraft detected the first noctilucent clouds (NLCs) of summer over the north pole. Those first electric-blue smudges were barely visible. Since then, however, the clouds have rapidly intensified. Recent images from orbit show a growing bank of NLCs pinwheeling just inside the Arctic Circle: [link to spaceweather.com (secure)]

NLCs are Earth's highest clouds. Seeded by meteoroids, they float at the edge of space more than 80 km above the ground. The clouds form when summertime wisps of water vapor rise up to the mesosphere, allowing water to crystallize around specks of meteor smoke. Last summer, they spread as far south as Los Angeles and Las Vegas, setting records for low-latitude sightings.

It's early in the 2020 season, so the clouds are still concentrated around the north pole. Nevertheless, people in northern Europe are starting to see them. Johny Krahbichler sends this picture taken last night (May 26th) from Ängelholm, Sweden: [link to spaceweathergallery.com (secure)]

Noctilucent clouds have been likened to a great "geophysical light bulb" because they turn on abruptly, reaching almost full intensity over a period of ~10 days. By early June, therefore, we can expect the clouds to spread farther south with a significant increase in brightness. The circular rhythm of the pinwheel motion (caused by a 5-day planetary wave) may even allow us to start issuing predictions of latitude ranges where the clouds are most likely to appear.

Approaching Active Region / B-Flare

Good afternoon. An active region approaching the northeast limb just produced a minor solar flare that may be associated with a coronal mass ejection (CME). The minor event registered as a long duration B-Flare, but may have been somewhat stronger due to the fact it is not yet in direct satellite view. Imagery courtesy of STEREO Ahead reveals a wave spreading across the farside of the sun, which is sometimes indicative of a CME. Because the region is on the farside of the sun, it should be directed completely away from our planet. The possible sunspot belonging to Cycle 25 will begin to turn into view this weekend.
