Arctic records its hottest temperature EVER as mercury hits 100F in town of Verkhoyansk in Siberia

Mercury shot up to 32F (18C) above normal in the Siberian town of 1,000 people
Scientists had predicted that the Arctic wouldn't reach these levels until 2100
Siberia is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures 18F (10C) above normal

Issues. Family issues for tomorrow. I'm fucking mind-blown by the disgusting hypocrisy. The whole thing actually might get cancelled. :(

Sadly, tomorrow is both Father's Day and my mom's birthday so we are supposed to have a small get together. I no longer believe that will be happening, but it might. I don't even know if I care anymore.

Mess, mess, mess.

On the upside, my aunt has finally tested negative. Fourth damn test. Still not satisfying to some though.

sorry you're dealing with drama. But I am glad to hear your aunt tested negative again. The testing might not be the most accurate, but after 4 negatives in a row I would think it's safe to say she's virus free! Hope you all can get together today and have a good time.

We celebrated 4 birthdays and 'father's day today! My daughters, my grand daughter, my stepson, and mine. Great food, a pinata for the kids, cake, cheesecake, and all the trimmings. Lot's of beer!

That shows a total of 677 earthquakes in the past 48 hours for all of Iceland. 565 of those are from the current swarm in the Tjörnes fracture zone.

It's been just under 13 hours since they were showing 565. Currently, they're showing 1,284.

Northern Iceland Hit by Intense Swarm of More Than 1500 Earthquakes (M5.7 and M5.4) While Grímsvötn Volcano Is Getting Ready for its Next Eruption

...Another large eruption occurred on 21 May 2011. This time it was the Grímsvötn volcano, located under the thick ice of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. Grímsvötn is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, and this eruption was much more powerful than the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull activity, with ash and lava hurled 20 km (12 mi) into the atmosphere, creating a large ash and gas plume.

The offshore Tjörnes Fracture Zone is an oblique transform zone that separates the northern volcanic zone of Iceland from the Kolbeinsey Ridge, part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge north of Iceland. A submarine eruption was reported during 1867-1868 at the SE part of the fissure system off the northern coast of Iceland along the Manareyjar Ridge immediately north of Manareyjar Island. So is there something brewing underwater?

There are approximately 130 volcanoes in Iceland, active and inactive. About 30 active volcanic systems can be found under the island, in all parts of the country other than the Westfjords.

The reason the Westfjords no longer has any activity is because it is the oldest part of Iceland’s landmass, formed around 16 million years ago, and has since been pushed away from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Because of this, the Westfjords is the only part of the country that has to heat its water with electricity, rather than using geothermally heated water.

In geology, the places known as hotspots or hot spots are volcanic regions thought to be fed by underlying mantle that is anomalously hot compared with the surrounding mantle. Examples include the Hawaii, Iceland and Yellowstone hotspots.

Giant squid from deep water caught in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand - a rare find

They were fishing around 1000m deep just north of Whakaari/ White Island at the edge of continental shelf and often get squid as a bycatch but never anything of this size.

Roger says in the space of 24 hours he caught a 10kg squid, then a 30kg, then the massive 80kg gravid female.

This would be the 2nd giant squid incident, the first being the one off South Africa that someone posted about here earlier this past week

Rare deep-sea unicornfish pops up in fishing net off Imizu, Japan

At first, he thought it was a lowsail ribbonfish, which is often caught in nets during this season. However, a younger colleague knowledgeable about fish species said it might be a deep-sea North Pacific crestfish, aka unicornfish.

According to records kept by the aquarium, a North Pacific crestfish hadn't been spotted in Toyama Prefecture for more than 30 years since one was found washed up at the mouth of the Katakaigawa river in Uozu in 1988. However, eight of the unicornfish either were caught or were snared in nets between February and April last year.
