As you know, I've been watching that area a lot in the last month or two and so I immediately started digging twitter, etc. for info, because based on recent activity in the region and potential residual energy from that big Mexico quake, I was worried it was a big one. EMSC still hasn't posted a quake related to the banner I just saw, but I did find this article which states there was a 4.1 in that area just after 9am this morning (14:00 UTC). There is no quake listed on EMSC or USGS for Jamaica or anywhere in the vicinity at that time. 4.1 magnitude earthquake rocks sections of JamaicaThe earthquake’s epicenter was 10 km northwest of Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, with a focal depth of 18.7 km [ link to jamaica-gleaner.com] FYI, Santa Cruz is a town in Jamaica [ link to www.google.com (secure)] Some tweets: @owenjamesja Quake measuring 4.1 (Richter scale) felt in section of Jamaica shortly after 9.00a.m today. The five brightest planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn - have been known since ancient times. They can easily be seen with the naked eye if one knows when and where to look. This is the best time of the year to catch the Fab Five. Five in a row before dawn! The bright gas giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, shining to the southwest, Mars is higher up in the south southeastern sky, and completing the set of five, are Venus and Mercury low to the eastern sky with the waning crescent Moon pairing up with Venus. Of all the five planets, Mercury is the faintest and therefore hardest to see, so having the lit side of the lunar crescent as a signpost to Mercury is always an advantage.
