Shouldn't these earthquakes be getting smaller in Chile after the 6.8... It's just seem off that they are still in the 6.5 range to be classed as an aftershock..

Ten greater than 5.0 quakes , consistently building up in magnitude with the most recent three being ~6.5 quakes within 18 hours of each other.

Either it's okay now or just building stress to an even bigger quake. On the ring of fire too.

A bit of info on a few of the big EQs to hit Chile in the past, for potential comparison-

9/16/15 Illapel quake
The 2015 Illapel earthquake occurred 46 km (29 mi) offshore from Illapel (Coquimbo region, Chile) on September 16 at 19:54:33 Chile Standard Time (22:54:33 UTC), with a moment magnitude of 8.3. The initial quake lasted between three and five minutes; it was followed by several aftershocks greater than magnitude six and two that exceeded 7.0 moment magnitude.

This earthquake had an unusual foreshock, just 20 seconds before the main 8.3 earthquake, reaching a magnitude of 7.2. This has been considered as one of the most complex earthquakes to be ever studied in Chile.

4/1/14 Iquique quake
The 2014 Iquique earthquake struck off the coast of Chile on 1 April, with a moment magnitude of 8.2, at 20:46 local time (23:46 UTC).

The mainshock was preceded by a number of moderate to large shocks and was followed by a large number of moderate to very large aftershocks, including a M7.7 event on 3 April.

I looked up those foreshocks preceding the Iquique quake, they were as follows:

6.7 on 3/16/14
6.4 on 3/17/14
6.2 on 3/22/14
6.2 on 3/23/14
