Regarding the Ecuador EQ swarm (up to 22 now between yesterday and today so far):

Earthquake ‘swarm’ rattles nerves on the coast but doesn’t indicate a larger quake is imminent

“This is a classic swarm of seismic activity happening on the boundary of the Nazca and Continental plates,”....The earthquakes are part of the process of the Nazca Plate slipping under the Continental, or South American, Plate.”

Several of the earthquakes have been centered near the epicenter of the 7.8 magnitude April 16, 2016 earthquake that killed 700 and caused an estimated seven billion dollars in property loses. The area also produced the 1906 quake, estimated at 8.9 magnitude, that killed more than a thousand in Ecuador and Colombia and hundreds more in Hawaii from the resulting tsunami.

I don't know about all that. I'd be more inclined to make a connection if the Guatemala earthquake was huge (like 7.5+). But only a 5.9, felt in Florida? That seems like a bit of a stretch imo.

I agree it's questionable. And if you look at the data providers for that quake, most listed it as a high 5, only a few listed it as larger. My initial thought if this theory were to work is that maybe the quake was larger than was posted, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

ETA:
The times don't even match up. The Guatemala quake was at 10:10 Guatemala time (which is the same as CST). That would've been 11:10 FL/EST time. It looks like most of the reports of the shaking were around an hour after that. Wouldn't take that long for the energy to travel.

THE SUN SPUTTERS BACK TO LIFE: Solar Cycle 25 really is underway. Breaking a string of 12 spotless days, a new sunspot (AR2796) is emerging in the sun's southern hemisphere, inset in this magnetic map from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO):

https://imgur.com/hMN6RCw

https://imgur.com/TbFPIpz

The +/- polarity of this sunspot marks it as a member of new Solar Cycle 25. Old Solar Cycle 24 sunspots would be the opposite, -/+, according to Hale's Law.

AR2796 is small and so far poses no threat for strong flares. It may not be the only sunspot, however. NASA's STEREO-A spacecraft is monitoring an active region just behind the sun's eastern limb. It could be a larger sunspot group soon to appear.

I do. That was a biggie and the location is much closer to FL so that makes a bit more sense. I just edited my prior post - the time of the shaking in FL doesn't match up to the time of the Guatemala quake.

This is amazing!

'MIND-BLOWING' IMAGE OF THE ISS: Imagine trying to take a crystal clear picture of something that zooms by in a split second traveling 17,000 mph. On Jan. 8th, astronomer Michael Tzukran did exactly that. Rapidly swiveling his telescope on a rooftop in Tel Aviv University, Israel, he captured this image of the International Space Station (ISS) as it arced overhead:

Even other astrophotographers are impressed. "This is a mind-blowing image," says Philip Smith, himself a longtime photographer of the ISS. Smith labeled Tzukran's photo, identifying more than 30 space station subsystems, modules, and other docked spacecraft.

"To me this image marks a great historical moment in time," says Smith. "This is the first time there are SpaceX Dragons docked to the ISS on Harmony Node 2 at the same time."
