Kickin' says Observation: It's a gorgeous morning here today, but no birds or squirrels around. Refreshed the water in my birdbath later yesterday afternoon and it's still full and sparkling clean. That is unusual, I tend to have a lot of birdbath traffic.I have had NO BIRDS for like 3-4 weeks. I see maybe one a day, today I have seen two. Squirrel population way down too. I was wondering if they turned on 5G or something. There are no wake-up birds / tweeties / hoot owl, etc. None. Wonder what this is. That's an awfully long stretch. I may go a day or two without seeing many birds, but not weeks. Very strange. Last Edited by KickinIt on 09/18/2021 01:41 PM |

But like Sim said, it was a much needed laugh to bring down the stress levels for many. So thank you! It must have been such a memorable, honorable and rewarding experience to be part of. Over here in Holland we remembered Operation Market Garden yesterday and today with the parachute landings, now 77 years ago. Americans, Canadians, Polish, British parachutists landed on the Ginkelse Heath Fields near Ede that day. This year the memorial was different, because of the covid restrictions, but I remember that in 2019, 98 year old American veteran Tom Rice made the jump again. Here is an impression of him and that jump [ link to www.youtube.com (secure)] We sometimes tend to forget, that even though liberation of Holland was delayed, due to weather conditions and unexpected fierce resistance of the Germans, it were these heroes who gave their lives for our freedom. For that we should be forever grateful and never take that freedom for granted. And thank you for being part of this trip John |

Quoting: KickinIt She woke up this morning in so much pain that she was crying. :( This young lady never cries over pain so I knew she was hurting bad. She's doing better now. I think it was from going all night without a pain pill. We won't let that happen again tonight. Gonna set an alarm for the middle of the night so she can take one. Nanny's 80th birthday is tomorrow and my aunt is having a little party for her, but my aunt lives about 45 minutes away. I'm gonna have to miss it. I don't feel right leaving Mini alone for several hours. She still needs help with everything, even sitting up from a laying down position. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Before we left, we went to Corrie Ten Boom's house and saw the hiding place there. It was so very small, I still can't imagine spending any amount of time in there. Quoting: Texan Buckeye Hi TB! I agree, visiting those sites is very sobering and humbling. A few years ago we visited the Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten in Limburg (Southern Netherlands), with over 8,200 graves of American soldiers who were killed in WW II. Very impressive. It makes you total silent to see that. And the Berlin Wall, 9 November 1989. Already almst 32 years ago. Coincidence or not, this morning I talked to an inland vessel skipper, who hauled cargo across the European rivers with his ship. And he mentioned going to Eastern Germany before the wall fell and how it was such a complete different world, almost from light to dark, with soldiers pointing machine guns at them, searching his cargo for refugees. Very aggressive. And all of that changed almost overnight when the wall fell. It makes you even more aware of what control and oppression can do with people. I've been to Berlin a few times over the past decades. Still could see the difference between the light and bright Western side and the grey Eastern side. Hardly anything left of that Wall now, besides a museum, if that is still there. And even though I know we live in challenging times, let's just hope and pray that we never ever end up in dark times like that again. Appreciate life and stick together. Division will get us no where.. |
