In May 2013, the Aleutian island volcano Pavlof erupted mightily, blowing a stream of ash into the atmosphere and messing up airplane travel.

Last week, it was at it again. This eruption was even more violent than last year’s; the plume went 9 kilometers into the air, and was hundreds of kilometers long. It was seen by the Landsat 8 satellite on Nov. 15:

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354
This time of year in the Pacific Northwest, specifically if you live around Seattle or Tacoma areas. Basically anywhere West of Mt. Rainier, but still close enough to see the mountain in the distance. If the conditions are just right and you get up early enough, for about 10-15 minutes, you can witness something truly majestic. The shadow of a volcano in the sky. Honestly I don't know what is going on, there's all kinds of physics behind it. Too much for me to understand.
Unfortunately my pic is kind of hazy because I was inside and used my phone. But I didn't have time to get my camera and run outside and whatnot, didn't know how long it would last. Little did I know, a friend of mine that happens to lives about 2 miles from me, in downtown Tacoma. Took a picture, around the same time. It helps that she was six stories up. She had the foresight to open her window and stick the camera out of it.

It's not so much the view of Mt. Ranier at sunrise, I was trying to share. Pretty much anywhere in the Puget Sound lowlands, you can see Mt. Rainier at sunrise. I was trying to share the fact that this time of the year, when the conditions are just right, you can see the shadow in the sky.
