I was thinking about setting up the Christmas tree tonight. 5 or 6 years ago I went ahead and broke down. Shelled out four hundred dollars and a LED pre lit artificial tree. It takes a little time to set up and spread out, make look pretty. But it's more than paid for itself in time, mess, disposal and actual money about twice over. Plus I've always liked Douglas firs. Even several years ago. A Douglas fir was set me back about $125. I couldn't imagine what a Dougless fir would cost now, probably $200. Not to mention they're usually gone first from the season lots. You think a Douglas fir would be the cheapest of like the five or six xmas type out there. because we grow them in the Northwest. I also like Scotch Plains. But they're real expensive too. I know you guys probably get Scotch pine cheap out East. Yes I'm talking to you simple27.

Haha!

Your dinner looks delish, as usual, although I'm not a fan of ribs. I don't like fatty meats. I'm mostly a chicken type of meat eater, but occasionally have steak. I could easily be a vegetarian.

I was given a very nice fake tree a few years ago with the lights already attached. I've been using it but it's really just not the same as a real tree. *sigh*

I love the real tree smell!!

Unusual growth? Had that happen before, did everything right and still did not end up with the desired result. Might be a genetic mutation from a few generations back.

no, unusual to grow... not so usual...

I still use a real tree. They're not that expensive here. $15-80 depending on species and size if you buy one in town. I also have the option of getting a $4.00 Christmas Tree Permit and heading out to national forest 50 miles away or so. I figure by the time I add up cost of fuel to get out there, find the one I like and get it home, I'm better off just buying one in town.

Snow may be sparse around Southcentral Alaska so far this winter, but the cold, clear weather meant the skating was some of the best it's been in recent years, and some interesting patterns emerged on the frozen surfaces of local lakes. Check out our slideshow.
