I don't know if it's just me, or what? But does it seem earlier than it really is, but not really, to anyone else this afternoon or evening?

When I was a kid, my Grandma made Sloppy Joe's with JUST the Hunt's Manwich can and buns. She never did get how it's done.

But as an adult, I now add the ground beef, whole diced and sauteed sweet onion, a bit of minced garlic, a sliced green bell pepper and a can of diced tomatoes. So I got that going for me.

Ya know when I lived in the Midwest - it was beef burgers, this was beef made with a can of chicken gumbo soup added.
Anybody ever have this gourmet item? This was in Minnesota the land of green jello.

Since we are talking stuff.
I have a new addiction.

Boil a pot full of water with a generous amount of diced fresh Ginger. Probably about 1/3 cup heaping.
Stain it, pour it in (my case a 2Q pitcher)
Refrigerate it.

Next I take a large 32oz glass, drizzle raw honey on bottom add about 1/2 cup or so of warm water to dissolve.

Add Ginger water to almost top - and sqeeze a whole lemon in it.

YUM YUM YUM
Its a variation of switchel.

I see you can build tons and tons of things off that Ginger boiled base. :-)

Yes only the soup too - we used to eat it on the good burger buns you get in the bakery area and we would butter them and put fresh cut onion on it, some people would add ketchup and mustard, cheese. It was pretty common at potlucks this stuff - it made the burger stretch farther I think. Cheap too. Make ahead and keep warm in crock pot.

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354
My Grandpa used to just slice a tomato, and ploop like 5 spoon fulls of Mayo over it, then way too much table salt.

My grandma used to split English Muffins, a slice of Kraft and a lot of black pepper. Then in the toaster oven. That was a snack. I was so sick of that after like 2 years. I was a little guy. But looking back, English Muffins were trendy in the late 80s.

Grandma would also serve frozen Cool Whip like ice cream.

Grandpa would often times, just melt a beef bullion cube in a mug for soup, and toss in broken up saltines and mushrooms.

Grandpa also ALWAYS used the same mug for coffee. Never did he wash it. Every Christmas, my grandma would get him a new one. If someone did wash it, he knew and would have a fit.

My grandparents, well, were not very educated. Grandpa went right into the Navy, instead of prison right out of high school. This was in the early 50s. Grandma never went to high school. They both were southern born.

Anyways, even later in life, when they didn't worry about money, they still were white trash. From about '88 to '94, I spend almost every other weekend with them. Often times, we'd go to the beach in the RV. I guess mom wanted me gone.

I like mayo, but not just needlessly eat it. Then again, I do this...

Fresh avocado, put a spoon full of mayo in the divot, some Frank's Red hot, sea salt and cracked pepper.
