My Grandpa used to just slice a tomato, and ploop like 5 spoon fulls of Mayo over it, then way too much table salt.
My grandma used to split English Muffins, a slice of Kraft and a lot of black pepper. Then in the toaster oven. That was a snack. I was so sick of that after like 2 years. I was a little guy. But looking back, English Muffins were trendy in the late 80s.
Grandma would also serve frozen Cool Whip like ice cream.
Grandpa would often times, just melt a beef bullion cube in a mug for soup, and toss in broken up saltines and mushrooms.
Grandpa also ALWAYS used the same mug for coffee. Never did he wash it. Every Christmas, my grandma would get him a new one. If someone did wash it, he knew and would have a fit.
My grandparents, well, were not very educated. Grandpa went right into the Navy, instead of prison right out of high school. This was in the early 50s. Grandma never went to high school. They both were southern born.
Anyways, even later in life, when they didn't worry about money, they still were white trash. From about '88 to '94, I spend almost every other weekend with them. Often times, we'd go to the beach in the RV. I guess mom wanted me gone.
