Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25540766 I definitely don't think CERN is helping anything. That much is for sure. That whole thing just freaks me out. The unknown consequences of what "they're" doing. Unknown to them even. IMO it's not something to gamble with... ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Afghanistan ~ Pg 20354 The truth about fracking, earthquakes and flaming spigotsThe year 2014 was a bumper year for earthquakes, worldwide there were several thousand. In Oklahoma we set the curve. There were 5,423 tremors recorded ranging from 1.0 to above 5.0 magnitude. Almost all independent earth scientists who had observed this phenomenal explosion of activity in the last three years had concluded a long time ago that something was unnatural and “off the curve” in central Oklahoma. Fracking has been around for more than 50 years, I did my first frack job in 1966 in Wyoming. We had the first massive hydraulic fracking symposium in the world in Norman Oklahoma in 1977, and at least 2.5 million wells worldwide have been successfully fracked to date. Some uninformed popular media have presented fracking as a process that explodes the formations, contaminates ground water and initiates earthquake activity. Rock formations do not explode. The only known man-made explosions in formations occurred in the late 1960s when the U.S. government in Operation Gasbuggy, set off several 20,000-ton underground nuclear explosions in New Mexico and Colorado to stimulate shallow gas production. These were unsuccessful. The problem of induced seismic activity is real. The last three years has been an ongoing Oklahoma experiment with water disposal and earthquake activity. One group asserts that the recent activity is no more than a historical re-enactment of what has been prevalent in Oklahoma, the other group is adamant that water disposal has created the current situation. Produced water disposal is big business, it is required, billions of gallons of salt water are produced from the 500,000 plus stripper wells in Oklahoma and it cannot be kept on the surface or dumped in lakes. The majority of wells produce much less than 5 percent oil along with 95% water daily, however using the REDA pump designed by a Russian immigrant in Tulsa, these wells can lift up to 60,000 barrels of water per day. That massive rate can make oil production at high water “cut” an economic process as long as the pumping and disposal costs are less than the revenue from the oil sold. Difficult to adequately predict the preferred direction of movement and the bottom pressures associated with this movement of the water underground at or near fractures. There are concepts like “fillup”, that is the time between the start of water disposal and the response in pressure in the deep zones. There are also effects like “leakoff”, how much is the fault leaking over time. The fault zone behaves like a leaky piston and water exudes past the rock ruptures. These concepts may explain the lag in the upsurge in quakes as massive disposal rates occur over recent times. This is further complicated by the abysmal nature of the data available relative to injection volumes and pressures at the 3,000 plus disposal wells in Oklahoma. Data is costly to obtain and no one wants to pay for it. :( Read On... .a very sad situation, one that will continue until it is too late. Heartbreaking. When he spoke about separating the operation into 2 distinct entities in regards to liability issues, my mind immediately interpreted this as a means to insure that property loss claims fail in court. That piece was written in such a way to show the public the great care this industry takes in research and safety, while using 'crafty' language to inform them how any perception that fracking causes earthquakes is faulty science. You're currently out of all of your previous medicine? You'd think the doctors would know better than to leave you with no medication for 24 hours. That could be so very dangerous. Just take it easy and try to relax as much as possible until you're able to get your new medication. And please check in as soon as possible tomorrow...so that I know you're okay? ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
