Australia covered in white: The biggest snow fall since 1984

Areas of southern Queensland, New South Wales, west and northwest area of Sydney, Australia, were completely wrapped in a snow blanket on Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17, 2015. This rare event was considered by some to be the country's most significant snow fall in the last three decades.

In less than a week, a second outburst of ice cold weather swept across Australia. Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) reported about 8 cm of snow (around 3 inches) in the south of Queensland. Meteorologist Sam Campbell said that this could be the state's biggest snowfall since 1984, in line with the 5 cm snow fall (1.96 inches) in the winter of 2007.

I do NOT miss that white stuff!!

Is that normal there in July?? I know it says it's the biggest snow fall since 1984, but do they normally get snow there in July?

July is the middle of winter down under, so I don't think it would be that unusual.

The comet is now on a collision course with the Venus-Jupiter planet pair. Not a real collision, but the three will all be within about 7° of each other from July 21 to about the 24th. A pair of wide-field binoculars will catch all three in the same view.

I believe once you got away from that environment and settled into a less populated area you would find that you'll be happier in the long run. That's not to say there wouldn't be an adjustment period and some home sickness. That's completely normal. We (humans) are naturally resistant to changes.

Also, it's not like you can't go back and visit.

It's true, I don't like the east coast, but you're not alone, I don't like the west coast either or any large metro area for that matter. Way too many people! Seems to me when you pack people in like sardines they start to act all crazy like. I prefer my wide open spaces and mountain views.

That said, the second statement you have highlighted in red was pure sarcasm (we really need a sarcasm font!)

This is the problem with the interwebs...I am often misunderstood. I have a very cynical, and snarky attitude and have been told my entire life that I am a smart ass. Hopefully, now that you know this, you don't take everything is say so seriously.

Cheer up! It's Friday!

Ideally, I'd be on a mountain top with a clear line of sight for a mile in any direction and at least 20 miles from any community with a population larger than 10,000. I wouldn't be alone. I'd invite like minded people that I trust with my life as they trust theirs with me. A valuable skill set would be a bonus.

As long as there's timber, fresh water, fertile ground and abundant wildlife we'd be set. I'd rarely, if ever, come off that mountain. Life would be grand!
