We are next in line for this storm, as we expect its landfall tonight. Dominica is just an example of what could happen in here. Not saying what would happen later on the week at Florida waters when this storms is expected to reintegrate as an hurricane. Quoting: ALFEY Looks like there is some strong upper level wind shear over Puerto Rico that might degrade the storm, but as you say its on your front lawn and will be knocking at the door overnight. Don't know what the shear would do to lessen the rainfall if at all. I do know about flash flooding. I live in the desert where we get less than 6 inches of annual rainfall, it's like a perpetual drought. One-quarter inch of rain can cause flash floods here. When we get 2-4 inch downpours in the summer it's insane. We are under a severe thunderstorm warning now. Last Edited by Birkeland on 08/27/2015 05:47 PM |

"Update, 2:40 p.m.: Thursday's midday models show little change to Erika's expected close approach to South Florida by Monday. Most notably, the GFS and European models—historically the most accurate—both still show a landfall at roughly tropical storm strength near Miami. The second-tier models, however, continue to produce truly amazing possibilities for later next week. The Canadian model, for one, takes Erika all the way up the East Coast for an eventual Sandy-like left-hook landfall in New Jersey (animation) next Friday. That possibility is in the realm of science fiction for now, but illustrates the point that Erika increasingly poses a real—though at the moment, slight—risk to virtually the entire East Coast next week." [ link to www.slate.com] Quoting: Birkeland LOVELY!! /sarcasm JUST what we need up here in the NorthEast to start out our forecasted "Tumultuous winter"!! Unfortunately, I think S Florida is over-due for a tropical battering-and right now; that's where they're predicting. Although my daughter is further inland-near Orlando, as a fellow "trauma junkie", who works a busy ER, the little brat is excited... THIS photo below reminded me of a picture I have of my ex-husband. First-understand he's a 6'5" skinny Albino (think Johnny Winters). We were on a pier in Santa Cruz after an early dinner and were feeding the birds some leftover bread. He got a BIT too close to this guy's twin, and I got a pick of his head within the beak-with a crazed look in his eyes. (Actually, both my ex AND the bird had pretty "crazed eyes" at the time...poor pelican). ************************************************************************************************* "Of all God's creatures there is only one who cannot be made the slave of the lash. Quoting: LostAndFound60 Yeah I think it's unlikely that Erika would make its way up the coast.. we'll see. They did a good job on that Sandy track, but I think that track prediction started when Sandy was off Florida. Erika needs to get past a few hurdles to just make Florida as an organized storm on Sunday/Monday first. Was mainly teasing Simple about her storm wishes... hehe I think I heard that Florida hasn't had a hurricane make land for 10 years, does that sound right? |
